monitor HP Omen X 25f and gpu advice?

Post by 5hootemup » 26 Jun 2020, 01:13

Hi Blur Busters,

I want to get a 240hz monitor for a competitive fps browser game like csgo.

My computer is 7 years old and I don't have a graphics card. I've been playing this browser game with my mobo integrated graphics and a 60hz monitor. I believe as its a browser game a gpu isn't used but I need a gpu so I can connect the 240hz monitor as my mobo doesn't have a 240hz output.

I think I found the best monitor for my budget and requirements -
  • HP Omen X 25f
  • input lag 2.6 ms
  • response time 5.3 ms
  • Price 350 GBP
Before I buy the HP Omen X 25f can I get some reassurances it is the right monitor for my requirements?
Will it work with my computer after I get a graphics card?
Will I be able to maintain stable 240fps while playing?
Will my input lag be slower than normal because my computer is old?

Please can someone advise on a suitable / affordable graphics card? My gpu budget is about £150.

I currently have a dual screen 60hz setup and when I get the 240hz monitor I would like a triple screen setup making the 240hz my main monitor. Do I need a gpu with 3 monitor outputs or I can keep my two 60hz monitors plugged into the mobo?

This is my computer -
  • Motherboard ASUS P8Z77-V Pro
    • Integrated Graphics Processor - Supports RGB with max. resolution 2048 x 1536 @ 75 Hz
  • CPU Intel core i7-3770 @ 3.40hz
  • CPU Cooler Corsair Hydro Series H60 2013 Edition High-performance
  • RAM Corsair Dominator 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz
  • PSU Corsair TX 750W V2
  • SSD Samsung 128GB 840 Pro SSD
  • Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

As old cs player(was pro in 1.6) don't recommend this TN nowadays. Tested many 240hz TN panels: XL 2540, aw2518hf, lg 27GK750F, xg252qx.

I have VG279QM and my aim increased after Asus vg248qe, global and now have level 9 on face it(playing just for fun and don't know any smokes :D), will be 10 soon I think, just my aim become very snappy and confindent and all this I connected with incredibly low input lag of IPS 240hz panels. For this price I would buy Acer VG252QX better (costs the same in my city). Only one moment confused me with vg252qx that it's leg doesn't change height, but it can be fixed by bracket(or how can I say this in English :D)

I had Acer XF252QX(the same panel as Omen X25f) and input lag is not so low as 240IPS panels have.

I have now i5 8600k, before was i7 3700 and input lag in CS GO was the same( but my videocard is gtx 1060 and depends also from game engine as you speaking about some another game)

Hi sk1p, thank you for your reply!

I was looking at the Asus VG279QM oc 280hz and when I researched this monitor the competitive csgo players said 27 inch was too big? For some reason the 24 inch version is more expensive than the 27inch.. Why didn't you get the 24inch model? The 24inch has better input lag and response time?

I don't mind paying a little more. I just need to make sure it is better than the HP Omen X 25f.

I can't find the Acer VG252QX anywhere to buy in England. So will have to rule this out.

What about MSI MAG 251rX? Is this better than HP Omen x 25f and Asus VG279QM?

Thank you

Is it possible that the "more snappy" feeling on VG279QM comes from the fact that everything appears to move faster on 27inch 1080p screen? (Maybe someone can describe better what I mean...)

I've had the Omen X 25f before ( I wouldn't recommend it anymore) I like the Asus IPS VG259QM much more, better color, contrast, less artifacts.
I'm also a cs:go player, very satified with my choice now!
My fps is between 200-300 fps (capped at 300fps in game) also depends which map)), 280hz works good but for some reason I like 240hz more, also at high refresh rates ELMB works very good but that's personal thing you have to try that for for yourself.
For me 27" is just to big (also a personal thing ) and yes the prices are increasing with the low availability for the new fast IPS panels right now, better wait till the prices become normal.
btw 350 GBP for the X 25f is to much not long ago I could buy it for €249 at amazon.de
In use: Asus VG259QM IPS 240-280hz - Hanns-G HS233 TN 120hz
Used before: LG 24LG600 TN 144hz - HP Omen X 25f TN 240hz - ViewSonic XG2402 TN 144hz - Asus VG259Q IPS 144hz

I play CS GO with 4:3 and black bars and I very like VG279QM in terms of gaming. There weren't other variants of IPS 240hz in March when I bought monitor. Also I work during 12 hours sometimes and reading a text irritates me on 27 and FullHD and that's why I recommend better to go for 24.5. Input lag should be similiar, but as I read on this forum the lowest input lag have Acer 240hz IPS panels, like Acer xv273x and acer xb273x, but MSI MAG 251rx also good variant(probably the best according to some reviews there). I am thinking right now to change my VG279QM to Acer Predator XB253QGX, but it's only connected with my job and 27 with FullHD is not comfortable for me for working. In terms of gaming(especially competitive) Asus VG279QM is very cool variant. Any of these panels will be in my opinion better than x25f. x25f can be little bit better only in terms of motion clarity, but input lag matters))

I understand what did you mean) For me is not possible cause I had bad experience with LG 27GK750F and my aim became worse and 27 panel wasn't helped me, I connected this with input latency.

Here's how my shortlist looks like now -
  • VG259QM price 417 GBP
  • VG279QM price 370 GBP
  • AW2521HF price 329 GBP
  • MSI MAG 251rX price 313 GBP
I just want this monitor for competitive first person shooter idc about colors just response time and input lag.

Is the 25inch Asus VG259QM worth paying 100 GBP more than the MSI MAG 251rX?

If I can get a clear cut answer I can finally buy a monitor!

I also need a graphics card.. I don't really want to spend more than 150 GBP. Please can someone recommend best GPU for my budget thats suitable for the monitor? I would also like to activate triple monitor setup.

Thank you Blur Busters I am looking forward to your feedback!

I decided to buy the VG259QM found it for £397 used on amazon. Its being sent with prime delivery so should arrive tomorrow!

I also bought this gpu Palit NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB dual. I hope its good enough for 280hz and so I can also use 3 monitors at the same time.

Omen X 25f is great for gaming.

I dont think your setup will get you >240 fps consistently. Your GPU is OK but your CPU is not. Look at i5-9400 if you are on a buget.
