Which hz/dpi setting is best for mice?
Re: Which hz/dpi setting is best for mice?
My mouse is at 500Hz I think I'll have to find some way to get 250Hz
Re: Which hz/dpi setting is best for mice?
Quick question: Chief posted "Due to Nyquist factors / rounding factors, one wants a dpi factor at least several times movement over screen resolution as of a safety margin."
I don't really size this concept. Does it mean horizontal resolution or vertical resolution? Should DPI > 1920 or > 1080. Would a custom res of 1600/900 be perfect for 3200 DPI then?
thanks

It's registered horizontal movement steps per pixel. You will notice these steps on low DPI (and/or high sensitivity and low FOV) when you make the slowest mouse movements.Quarksie wrote: ↑12 Aug 2020, 07:09Quick question: Chief posted "Due to Nyquist factors / rounding factors, one wants a dpi factor at least several times movement over screen resolution as of a safety margin."

I'm not sure how correct this is but you can use a formula from this site to calculate the minimum DPI for a 1-to-1 DPI to pixel ratio.
The site doesn't let you input your sensitivity in cm/360 directly so you have to calculate it manually:
(pi * g) / (i * tan(f / 2))
g = Horizontal resolution
i = Sensitivity in inches per 360 turn (Divide your cm/360 by 2.54)
f = Horizontal FOV
For example, 1920x1080 resolution at 103 FOV and 30cm/360 sensitivity requires a minimum of 406DPI. At 400DPI that makes it roughly a 1x DPI to pixel ratio. 800DPI would make it 2x, etc.
I think Chief was implying roughly 10x or more as a minumum.
I seem to prefer a ratio of 2 to 3x for control when I checked my ideal settings. Beyond that I feel like its more difficult to keep a stable crosshair when you don't want any movements from the mouse. Edit: Also, slow to medium speed movements of roughly 90 degrees did'nt feel consistent too.
What's weird is when I tried extremely high DPI's of >10,000 with ratio's of +50x then it felt good again.
