Sorry to bring up this old post again, but for the vg279qm does it get the same benefit using OD120 as the 259? If everyone is liking OD120 over OD 80 then I will use it, but wasn't sure if this review applied to the 279.

Why does "VRR on + OD 60" look different than "VRR off + OD 60"?

Edit: this applies to all levels of OD, looks always way worse with VRR off. why?

I'm on MCM105. OD60 is excellent on all refresh rates (ufo + frog pursuit + gaming)

Guys, can you please check VRR range? It seems advertised "48-240Hz" is actually 60-240 (61-280).
upd: figured out that must be how LFC works (early kick in). I really don't like VRR's choppy 60fps at 120Hz.

I want to achieve the best motion clarity (at 300+ fps) while at the same time having the lowest possible input lag.

So i have two options:
  1. 280Hz with OD80, ELMB off, VRR off --> lowest possible input lag, good motion clarity
  2. 280Hz with ELMB on (OD80 locked), VRR off --> best possible motion clarity, some input lag increase but unclear how much
Any input on this would be helpful!

Bonus question: is there a difference in input lag for different GameVisuals (Racing mode, FPS mode, etc.)?

Thanks!

How do I enable OD 120 on a VG279QM with FM 103?

EDIT: I've tried the method in the first post and my monitor just shuts off..

One can test a raising of LFC to 65Hz using ToastyX. That mostly solves the LFC-thrash problem. Also, theoretically, LFC thrash is 1/280sec jitter at 280Hz so is relatively minor.

55Hz and 65Hz LFCs are getting more commonly recommended on >240Hz VRR panels, when LFC stutter penalty is getting smaller and smaller for low frame rates. There is sometimes flicker/blackouts at low-Hz LFC on some monitors, so a higher-Hz LFC greatly reduces the slight-flicker effect of bringing up menus, etc.

Anyone else notice that ELMB is super bright for some reason? With it off I have my brightness at 15, and with it on I set my brightness to 0 and it's still brighter than with it off...

The reviews of the VG259QM seem to disagree on whether or not ELMB adds input lag. According to the tomshardware review it doesn't [1], but according to the RTINGS review the input lag goes up from 1.9ms without ELMB/BFI to 4.3ms with ELMB.

Another strange point is that in the RTINGS review for the 27" VG279QM, they measured the same input lag with and without ELMB/BFI. I always assumed the 25" and 27" models are identical apart from size... maybe there are minor differences, but a completely different BFI implementation that adds input lag on one size and not on the other seems very unlikely, no?

So who is correct, does ELMB on the VG259QM add input lag or not?

[1] quote: "We ran the response and lag tests at 280 Hz with and without ELMB engaged and found no difference in times."
