I've heard about image retention on this monitor a lot, which is scaring me off of buying it, but if the price drops low enough I might try my luck with the panel lottery. Are there different "revisions" with the AW2521HF like Dell has with some monitors? A04, A05, etc.?
Also I'm curious what to look at in the picture posted, is reddit not supposed to be in the background? Is that the image retention? Sorry for my confusion.
Image retention AW2521HF
Re: Image retention AW2521HF
It was impossible to reproduce the issue I had, it wasn't exactly caused by what image retention normally would be, I could be searching Google and a random image popups and I got the vertical lines on my screen and if I keep the image up I get the temporary retention, weird issue with these panels.
You should probably try and upgrade your hardware, the stuttering isn't the monitors fault. And the VG had Freesync so you could've even used that to get rid of it.jimbus80 wrote: ↑17 Sep 2020, 06:39I have the AW2521HF (dark) and I was trying yesterday the different OD modes and didn't see image retention, at least when playing. I'll try to reproduce today what you did (I guess watch a YouTube video using extreme OD, right? If not, how to check?) and report here.
I've returned several monitors: the VG259QM because I noticed micro-stuttering while playing games with a lot of variance in fps and also because I had to be changing the OD a lot; and the MAG251RX because of an annoying red light zone in the bottom right corner, although the OD was way better than the Asus. So, for me, if the panel is good (and I think mine is), both Dell and MSI are the best 24' 240hz monitors.
In my case, the only doubt is if I should keep the Aw2521HF or go for the XG270QG.

The upgrade hardware quote wasn't directed at you but the guy that keeps getting stutters because his fps drops so much.Drabat wrote: ↑17 Sep 2020, 10:54Well i don't what a updrage a got a decent config like a I9900K and an 2080ti /: , i have freesynd enabled too , i usr the custom color setting gain 95% red 97% greend and 100% blue i don't change anything else for colors , and brightness 24 and contrast 75 and i don't tuch anything else

Re: Image retention AW2521HF
Different monitors, same hardware, different results. And I always use variable sync because if I was able to maintain max fps all the time, I wouldn't pay for a FreeSync/GSync monitor. Anyway, I repeat: in my case, VG259QM had much more stuttering while going up and down in fps than MAG251RX and AW2521HF.
And for those who want to test overshoot or double image issues and try different overdrive settings, ULMB on/off, etc., I recommend you to run the game Geometry Dash and pay attention to the shape of the first triangles you'll see.
Re: Image retention AW2521HF
Strange, I tested all 3, no stutters at a solid 240 or 280( Asus) only when the fps is going wild but that's at settings I'd never use anyway, then that's the only time Freesync is worth it for the bit of input lag it brings.jimbus80 wrote: ↑18 Sep 2020, 09:27Different monitors, same hardware, different results.
