Is playing at 240 fps on a 144hz monitor worse than playing at 144 fps on a 240hz monitor?

I want to buy a 240hz monitor because I can't find any decent ips panels that do 144hz, but I can only output like 160fps in my game of choice. Will I see more blur with a 240hz monitor than with a 144hz one if I don't max the fps on the 240hz one?
