Any info on Lenovo Legion Y25 240Hz monitor?

Post by Multiplex » 25 Nov 2020, 05:44

Hey, I was just looking for deals on 240Hz monitors and found this Lenovo Legion Y25 one for £229.99. Naturally, I tried to find a reputable, in-depth review for it but found nothing. It says it’s IPS so I would assume it uses the same panel as other IPS monitors. I’m tempted to get it, but I don’t have a pc to test it with (building around January when new GPU’s release) to see if it’s good or if it’s rubbish. Does anybody have any knowledge on this monitor like pixel response time, input lag, quirks, etc? Thanks :D

I'm also looking for reviews or opinions. Has anything happened in that matter?

I don't get it. Where's the review there
Saw your post in the megathread. Been waiting for that review aswell but i lost my patience and got bought it anyway!

Iv'e had the Lenovo Legion y25-25 for 2 weeks now and i gotta say im really really impressed. Upgraded from a BenQ 144hz TN monitor and its a huge difference. I hesitated to buy this monitor cuz of some bad reviews but im glad i decided to go for it. Input lag feels much better on the Lenovo and the tests i have done in games seems like its about 50% faster than my old BenQ. I actually cant tell the difference between the overdrivesettings so maybe im not the best reviewer out there =)
I think it's absolutely redicolous for the price i paid, got it from Lenovo for roughly 349$ used a blackfriday voucher code on the site for a 130 usd discount =)

Prices are a bit different in sweden due to taxes... Electronics are usually cheaper in the US so i guess you can get it at a better price.
I paid ~1200$ + shipping for my 3080 and its 899$ in the US.. feelsbadman

How's the input lag at below 240hz, particularly down to 60hz?

Been using it for about 3 weeks now after purchasing for around $250 USD, not too informed in the monitor world but coming from 144hz the 240hz upgrade alone is worth the price imo. My panel already developed what I believe are inversion artifacts but that seems to be common among 240hz monitors, annoying but not a deal breaker. Would still buy if you can get it for under 300.

I have this monitor as well and love it, but just like a few other people here I have nothing to compare it with or know how to run tests.

I ran testUFO and it looked decent, but beyond that, I am a complete noob. What is "pixel response time, input lag, quirks"? I am happy to run all of these tests if you could direct me on how to perform them.

So I spent some time reading different tutorials here on testing different aspects of monitor performance and will try to do more later, but wanted to share my capture of the "Over Drive" modes in this monitor side-by-side. It's obviously not a very good test, since I simply put my iPhone on a small tripod, set it to SloMo, recording at 240Hz to match the monitor's refresh rate, and then aligned three modes on the same timeline in Premiere while slowing down the footage to 25% of the original speed (making it 60fps), so the difference is easier to see.

(I don't seem to have permissions to post videos, so if you are interested, please paste this after YouTube)

Static photography is quite useful for some contexts, but just wanted to let you know --

BTW, you can use an iPhone hand-wave pursuit camera, using these instructions:

Easy Pursuit Camera 101
- Record video
- For video, make sure camera exposure per video frame is 4x refresh cycles. use 1/30sec for 120Hz or 1/60sec for 240Hz.
- Hand-wave camera as accurately as possible following UFOs
- Finish record video

It's usually a lot easier to adjust if using a 3rd party recording app that allows you to configure camera exposure per video frame. Use manual focus (or tap-n-hold to lock focus), use color temp 6500K, and force a fixed exposure matching about 4 refresh cycles.

Does the Y25-25 support Freesync over the HDMI port?

It would be great for use with both PC and Console.

Just tested it myself and yes, it does support AMD FreeSync and 240Hz over HDMI (although I realize that for consoles you only need 120Hz).
