i just got an email from sales that my order was delayed until Sept because of a firmware issue that made the monitor "underperform from the advertised specs." I guess they've fixed it and have to flash the new firmware before they can ship.. i dunno but I cancelled my order. I'm not in a huge hurry. I'm about to get my CRT out of storage. lol
interesting

I know the 1.0 version of the certification of the program required user updateable firmware, hopefully that's a feature that has carried over to 2.0, then

yeah, after reading like 1000 forum post and reviews, UFO tests videos etc.. I'm just going to put an LG 48 CX OLED on my desk. lol There's just too many variables with gaming monitors.. if EVERY model had BFI/strobing that was user configurable from 60hz up (pulse width, duty cycle, overdrive, etc) Instead of one, say, only doing BFI at 240 and up or having fixed overdrive, etc.. Plus, it's not like the manufacturers spell this stuff out for you. They don't even use the same terminology for BFI feature. It's a giant headache figuring out what monitor does what and weighing pros and cons. Of course none of this would matter if someone like The Chief could tweak them all and give them his blessing :) ...or if I could just buy a 25" 16:9 CRT. lol

Yep I have the same feeling. 48" is simply way too big for me so I'm waiting for the 42" model, but yeah..
Been lurking this thread and I really appreciate chiefs' efforts but on the manifacturer's side it's too little too late, only one brand seems interested in chief's incredible tuning :/ this Viewsonic isn't even available in europe, it's only 1080p IPS, with no BFI+VRR tech even though it's already spreading.
Now that I saw the CC trick to make LG's OLEDs reach higher brightness during BFI there's no reason not to get those for 60hz/120hz BFI and get perfect response times + perfect blacks and good HDR as bonuses. Then just get the best BFI+VRR monitor you can find and you're covering every framerates and use cases

A 48" CX OLED is rather nice, even if MPRT can never be less than 1/240sec = ~4.2ms in BFI mode on an LG OLED CX.

The motion blur reduction with OLED BFI is very, very clean (regardless of hardware-based or software-based BFI on OLED).

Yeah, I've thought about getting a 360hz LCD and try the brute force method of getting rid of blur but I play retro games as well so I have a feeling the BFI at 60hz on OLED is probably among the best. I saw a video of a guy comparing the BFI of the CX vs the C1 and the C1 was brighter but he didn't do any actual blur testing so I don't know what to make of it. He did say he saw no perceivable different in clarity though.

4.2ms is perfect for retro imo you don't need super low mprt when the base resolution is only 240p. just use nearest neighbor and integer scaling multiples.

That’s very true - 240p material doesn’t demand as much motion blur reduction until you are running at Sonic Hedgehog speeds — and not all retro games scroll that fast.

Personally at 60hz I find the stroboscopic steps more distracting then a small amount of persistence blur at super fast scroll speeds.

This is true. Some of us are WAY more bothered by stroboscopics than blur, and vice versa.

Thinking….Long term… If we had 1000Hz monitors we could have adjustable-persistence 60Hz in 1ms increments of MPRT, all in monitor-independent software based rolling scan emulation of a CRT / plasma of our own preferred choice of simulated phopshor.

Now back on topic (LG CX should be separate thread anyway): Pulse width is our digital analog for persistence adjustabiloty.

For now, XG2431 is capable of adjustable MPRT at 60Hz of 1% to 40% of a 60Hz, so the MPRT(100%) can vary from 0.01/60 thru 0.40/60.

Pulse width and MPRT(100%) is nigh virtually exactly identical, within measurement error margins, as long as crosstalk intensity is low.

That’s an MPRT range of 0.17ms to 6.7ms for XG2431 at 60 Hz. Assuming MPRT(100%) and ignoring interference to MPRT benchmarking algorithm from the strobe-crosstalk double image that is faint at 60Hz anyway. Phopshor decay of normal white backlight LEDs (non KSF) is about 0.1ms so this may affect MPRT range slightly (e.g. 0.2ms to 6.8ms) away from simple pure Blur Busters Law math of MPRT(0%->100%).

I think I'll just dig my 20 inch PC CRT out of storage and see if it still works. using that plus a 240 HZ modern LCD monitor should cover all the bases. unless I just happen to find a Sony GDM-FW900 at a flea market or something. 😆😁
