Hey Chief, have you cooperated with Viewsonic with their other upcoming 24/25", high Hz, FHD monitor, the xg251g? I just find it interesting that they have two monitors that seems to cover the same niche/market. Are they focusing on different things, like the xg2431 trying to deliver image quality, while the xg251g tries to deliver raw power for the competitive people?

What's the difference between the viewsonic XG2431 and the MSI MAG251RX? They look similar

Wait, I thought the XG2431 was a gaming monitor.

Im happy with the XG2401 performance in Quake, can anyone tell me if XG2431 at least on paper will be as good but better colors due IPS panel?

I guess im going to need to wait to get a confirmation from both Chief and the Quake nazis in Esreality. With these two seals of approval I would feel pretty confident buying a new monitor.

It certainly is a gaming monitor. I just found it interesting that Viewsonic announces a 360hz 1080p 25" IPS monitor when their 240hz 1080p 24" IPS monitor is not yet released. If the xg251g has the same strobing and motion clarity as the xg2431 with 120 more hz, I would have just waited for that.

Hence my thought would be that the xg2431 would have the better motion clarity (or overall image quality as I said in my other post) , while the xg251g with its 360hz would please the competitive high-Hz fans. Just me thinking aloud :)

There are competitive pros/cons of the two models.

I will disclaim I have no contact with anybody who worked on the XG251G team, but:

The XG251G is a native G-SYNC chipped monitor, and has a 240Hz ULMB, and most G-SYNC native 240Hz+ panels currently do not achieve low latency at lower Hz (e.g. gaming consoles) -- although this one needs to be tested. Where, XG2531 likely has far lower 60Hz lag and 120Hz lag, making it a superior all-purpose "consoles AND desktop" gaming monitor. The panel quirks produces latency advantages that are different for the two panels, you'll get lower lag 360fps at 360Hz on the XG251G, but you'll probably get lower lag with PlayStation/XBoxes on the XG2431. The reviewers will need to test this out obviously, but few 240Hz panels can do 60Hz low-lag. I really noticed this 240Hz XG2431 stand out like a rare lit christmas tree as its unusualness in lower-lag with low-Hz gaming consoles. I would guesstimate 240fps@240Hz performance on the two would be very similar (theoretically slightly lower on the XG2431, if the XG251G is low-lag optimized only at 360Hz). This is 100% speculation based on my existing knowledge of fixed-scanrate and variable-scanrate LCD panels but my prediction is some use cases will be lower lag on XG251G, and other use cases will be lower lag on XG2431.

It will be a Right Tool for the Right Job situation.

I wouldn't be surprised if the XG2431 (and XG251G) outperforms XG2401 in practically every metric, and you have way more features like VRR, strobing, and higher Hz. Even 144fps at 240Hz has lower lag than 144fps at 144Hz.

Indeed, you'll want to get multiple verifications of approvals.

The past few 360hz have all been with the same panel. Hopefully viewsonic use a different panel on theirs and actually produce an unique product.

Those 360Hz GSync monitors are all the same hardware and software wise. I guess NVIDIA pretuned the software a lot, and also restricts big changes in it.
For example, it's comical how much NXG253R (nvidia tuned) lacks in Black Equalizer performance to MAG251RX (msi own tuned)
Strobing is also subpar on those, only 240Hz mode available + a lot of inverse ghosting and crosstalk.
Considering that the panels of those 360Hz monitors are very similar to ones on Freesync 24.5" monitors (both from AUO, both 24.5) those issues look like a big lost opportunity imo.
Those monitors perform best in VRR 240-360Hz range, so if you're not into VRR and want good strobing instead there's no point in buying them.

According to ViewSonic, the monitor should be available in late July.

At the end of July what year? Did they elaborate?
