240hz for valorant only 200fps?

240hz for valorant only 200fps?

So I'm playing valorant and was thinking of jumping ship to a 240hz because my old benq 144hz doesn't have a display port for my new 3070.

The issue is that, I only get 300fps max, 240ish fps walking around and 170fps when in a fight.

I am wondering if the 240hz will cause screen tearing. I don't want to use gsync or anything like that because I've heard it causes input lag.

Would a 240hz be worth it if I am only getting 230-240fps and dips down to 170fps, or would a new 144hz be better?

I was thinking of the asus tuf 240/280hz or aoc 24g2.

I could get the new benq with a display port, but it's more expensive than aoc.

To improve misunderstanding, 240Hz even benefits low frame rates!

Ignoring tearing/lag, 60fps at 240Hz looks blur-identical to 60fps at 60Hz. Motion blur is directly proportional to frame rate; doubling framerate halves motion blur if you have enough refresh rate. 240fps at 240Hz has half the motion blur of 120fps at 240Hz (or 120fps at 120Hz, same blur).

However, you still benefit because:

1. Tearing becomes less visible even for low frame rates
VSYNC OFF 100fps at 240Hz has less visible tearing than 100fps at 144Hz
... Thats because tearlines are visible for only 1/240sec instead of 1/144sec. Tearlines disappear faster!

2. Low frame rates generally have less scanout/delivery lag
VSYNC OFF 100fps at 240Hz has less lag than 100fps at 144Hz
... Thats because 100fps frames can be fully displayed faster in 1/240sec. Frames are sent faster from GPU to monitor!
(This is frame delivery latency -- we assume processing latency and GtG latency is the same)


3. Variable refresh rate mythbusting (G-SYNC, FreeSync)
A. VSYNC OFF is for esports but don't dismiss variable refresh rate for non-esports use.
B. Variable refresh rate lag penalty becomes very tiny at 240Hz+.
C. Variable refresh rate is the world's lowest lag "Non-VSYNC-OFF" technology. If you love VSYNC ON, you'll love G-SYNC even more. 47fps looks like perfect 47Hz. 86fps looks like perfect 86Hz. G-SYNC is a great eraser of single-framedrop stutters, just see www.testufo.com/vrr .... It maintains perfect framerate=Hz by changing Hz in realtime to match framerate, so framerate changes look stutter-free. It makes solo play more fun, when that extra 1ms-2ms lag doesn't matter. Big whoop. Are you SURE you are only going to play online games with the monitor? If not, please do not be afraid to turn on G-SYNC to improve the motion quality of solo games such as Cyberpunk 2077 or other fun stuff. G-SYNC can be magical for an insignificant scanout-lag penalty.

4. Don't forget GPU upgrades
Most game players keep the same monitor through at least 2 or 3 GPUs. So you can upgrade your GPU to increase frame rates. Having a higher refresh rate helps future proof your monitor purchase through at least one GPU upgrade.

Yes, esports players use VSYNC OFF and there can be a tiny bit of lag for VRR (but it becomes almost zero for 360Hz G-SYNC).

Some players even upgrade to 280 Hz or 360 Hz despite running at only 200fps. Because there's less lag (even for 200fps) and less tearing (even for 200fps). Frames transmitted in 1/360sec to the monitor! Tearlines visible for only 1/360sec!

Also, it even makes screen dragging / panning / scrolling / web surfing nicer too. Less motion blur in everyday use.
... You get 1/4th scrolling motion blur at 240Hz versus 60Hz
... You get 1/6th scrolling motion blur at 360Hz versus 60Hz

What is your fav monitor to game on? I was thinking of 1440p, but I mainly play FPS games online, so I don't think the 1440p would benefit me as much as others.
