Rediscovering classics with 120 hz/fps

Post by mdzapeer » 12 May 2014, 08:25

Since getting a taste of 120 hz gaming, any old (new even) games worth playing again with better than 60 hz. Apart from the usual FPS suspects Quake, UT and CS.

I guess HL2/HL1 would be one.

HL2, Just Cause 2, Portal 2 are all great with 100hz/120hz. Or even better: LightBoost, if you can live with the colors.

"Race Driver: Grid" sure would look stunning. Not "Grid 2", that abomination of a sequel. I mean the first Grid game.

It's a very fast racing game. 120FPS should make this game even more awesome.

I think that most racing titles are among the games that benefit the most from 120FPS on 120Hz.

You can have your cake and eat it too, with some of the LightBoost sequels (e.g. NVIDIA ULMB, or better yet, EIZO Turbo240 or well-adjusted BENQ Blur Reduction). If you are playing solo and a smidgen of lag is not critical, try testing out VSYNC ON, since it gives you a simultaneously stutterfree/tearfree/blurfree experience if you keep your framerate capped out.

Yes, I always play those titles with LightBoost at 100hz with vsync on. On my XL2411T.

I'm sniffing on the XL2411Z and the XL2420G. But the former isn't possible to get with V2 firmware it seems, unless you do it yourself, which I'm honestly hesitant to do. And the latter I have no idea when will be available.

With the linux method you don't need the hardware dongle, it is a bit complicated but its doable.

Why not try asking your local BenQ service center to do the upgrade, at least if there is any problem the liability is with them.

Maybe if someone has the time/knowledge they can we even do the upgrade remotely.

BENQ's America and Euro stores now sells Version 2, as does an increasing number of Amazon sellers.
