ASUS VG259QM 280Hz vs ASUS ROG Strix XG258Q 240Hz

Post by Deadliest » 16 Apr 2021, 21:34

Hi,

So I'm looking for a 240hz monitor preferable ASUS due to the built-in overlay crosshair.

Apparently atm the ASUS VG259QM 27inch 280Hz 1ms is $499 on sale while the ASUS ROG Strix XG258Q 24.5inch is $579?

Is the VG249QM 27inch a good deal,

Though I play my games at lower res then the native resolution at times sometimes 4:3 or 16:10 resolution. I heard rumors that the 27inch ASUS VG259QM people notice square pixels due to low pixel density is this for real?

27" 1080p displays (I had one) tend to look a bit grainy. It wasn't a problem for me, but everyone is different. I found that I only really noticed it on the desktop, when looking at text. In games, I didn't notice it much, if at all. However, my eyesight is not perfect :P

When playing at lower resolutions, aliasing will be worse of course. But still, it was OK for me in games.

thanks I tend to play at 4:3 or 16:10 stretch resolution if the images are slightly bigger on 27inch I don't mind. I currently have a 24inch Benq monitor xl2411.

You can always make your own, custom 16:9 resolutions. On NVidia, you get these automatically added to your list of resolutions if you enable the "GPU scaling" checkbox in the "3D Settings" section's "Image Sharpening" setting. The driver will then insert extra 16:9 resolutions which will also be available to choose in-game. In the NVidia panel, they will be called "Scaling Resolutions" and placed in the own group. On my current 1440p display for example, I get:

capture_001_17042021_174510.jpg
capture_001_17042021_174510.jpg (74.68 KiB) Viewed 4347 times

On a 1080p display these extra resolutions will obviously be different ones, suitable for 1080p displays.

Unsure on where you live, but that may be a regional thing. The VG259QM 24.5 is not more expensive than the 27 inch model...Not sure where you got that from. Amazon the 24.5 is $320 and the 27 is $380.

And yes it is true, you really dont want a 1080p 27 inch monitor.

In my country 25" are also a bit more expensive. Thats interesting.
I'm on VG279QM and I don't mind the pixels at all and bigger size much better than 25".
Solid monitor, medium build quality. Main downside of these monitors is locked overdrive when ELMB is enabled. But if u don't use ELMB it will do very good.

Everyone I ask suggest I go with 24.5 inch, though I was told the text may look grainy due to the low pixel density or you may see the pixels on the desktop is this true for your VG279qm?

Yes, I noticed everybody recommends 25" on 1080p displys. Seems like most people don't like the pixel size/density on 27".
Pixels are visible yes, but its not that much worse than 25" as people may say, because pixels are also visible on 25".
If you're not sure and don't want to risk it just go for 25". Its a matter of personal preference. Of course the best would be if you could experience it yourself.

I forgot to mention about VG's fixed 60Hz input lag issue. It can be a big problem if u use 1920x1080@60Hz.

A better 25" choice would be MSI MAG251RX, I belive it can do crosshair inside msi software.
