i mean if you indeed are doing pro photography (stills), isn't 4k obsolete since like forever ago lol (example 5dmk4 RAW/L: 6720×4480, M RAW 5040×3360 M 4464×2976, hell even S RAW/S1 is taller at 3360×2240, that's from 2016). You can't even view some artistic shots of some such human bodies in full rez because they are mostly portrait, for example 3k x 5k. Indeed you'd need double monitors JUST for photography alone, unless you enjoy dangling the cables around while tilting the monitors all over, even then landscape photos are still slightly shrinked.
Man. I have passed by most of your posts because quite frankly I can not understand anything you're trying to say. I'm sure you're a nice and knowledgeable guy but there's clearly a language barrier of sorts. Why does it seem you're attacking and disagreeing with everyone all the time? Also judging by this post and the previous ones you are probably a tech wiz but do you actually do anything with it? Work or even play in serious level?

Yes, I'm a professional photographer and I do product photography in the luxury field. Good 4K monitor is fine, for my post workflow. You know there's zoom tools available for per pixel accurate editing right?
yeah but not for viewing, point is if you are talking about compromises (which is also something I have said countless times already) in monitors then 4k is a compromise even for casual viewing of high rez photos, so of course I did not expect that pro use doesn't care much about that. I like ghetto photography, and no editing at that. The photography I knew and loved were not pretentious and over glorifying things, less for profit or fame. That's why when I dabbled with dslr around 10-14 I found too much snobbery and just didn't bother anymore. Years later instagram is becoming more and more just an advertisement site, where normal users have long been cast aside. I don't like any of that and I'm not gonna shy away from expressing my critique of that or anything else just because there are bound to be people financially attached to it all because this is the world, not heaven. That detachment doesn't stop me from talking about what's relevant for what was just discussed, monitor compromises. I talked about mainstream dslr resolutions, and now I'm bringing up mainstream posh monitor resolutions such as the IMAC being 5K since 2014 (lol), but this year they downgraded to 4.5K so maybe there's a reason here (ok I put it lightly, I mean they finally realized that resolution isn't everything--see I am on your side m8). I thought maybe if you were video editing then resolution is less of an issue and they are catching up on the fps race a bit more. You don't need to project on what the other random user or users had projected about. You clearly understood basically everything I said including taken up my advice to try ignore what you don't like, and if you actually have read all my posts, you'd known how disappointed I still am towards the gaming industry since 2015ish. The fact that I even bother to still tinker with gaming gear is already more than what the industry deserves, from my strictly personal and pure viewpoint, anyone else in my shoes would feel the same way. I don't find aim training score bragging worthy substitute to fill in the void of a lack of truly good games. The fact that people even bother to brag about those instead of gaming leaderboards, is already more than telling of how competitive games don't even give people a sense of achievement anymore. It's clearly not just me being crazy here. I'm in this thread because I don't want to be accused to have monopolized the only other thread I'm in this site for. In my humble opinion, trying to constantly provide a fresher more different viewpoint is trying to contribute, not sabotage, a discussion. If you have something else to add to my opinions it is certainly more than welcomed. Also it's just casual chatting in the end. No strings attached. Again, please *credential brag* in general like I sometimes do, not at another person. If you feel like I am "attacking everyone" it's only because you think it's wrong for me to seem to claim or pretend that I know more in general. Did you forget that if nothing else I'm the first user and reviewer of thread title by a LONG mile?

Strange how conflicting the experiences are. I know many more CS players at my level (faceit 9-10) has changed to this and liked it very much. I like it too. Not revolutionary or anything but best I've tried. Some coming from 240Hz some from 144Hz. All think its an upgrade.

At the same time there still are ofcourse guys @ lvl 10 with 120Hz old panels, who arent tech savvy at all wiping floor with us. So. Yeah. There's always that.
Most of the time we deal with heavy placebo effects. I mean, on paper 390hz is suppose to be the best and only option to perform well on competitive games right? Your brain thinks so at least, wich doesn´t mean it is a fact.

I, myself, like to test it. I open Quake or Aim Lab (you can use any other game/app that shows you metrics about your accuracy) and try stuff. In my case the blur I had with 390hz was enough to make me track worse than with a good 240hz panel that has near instant pixel response time with no blur or overshoot. That was with Strobing disabled and enabled (doesn´t matter normal or extreme, same thing). These 360hz panels simply can´t keep up with the refresh rate.

Doesn´t mean that you won´t be getting input lag benefits and the monitor displaying every frame of your game, if you have good hardware.

As for "no one goes back", not right. A lot of players actually went back after trying 360hz/390hz, I could name a lot from Quake but it would be irrelevant for you, so all I can say is that this youtuber you guys seem to like a lot, moved back to 240hz (270hz more precisely) again. Why? Because he thinks the same as I do. Not worth it, doesn´t improve his game, good BOE/Innolux 240hz/270hz panel has better response time and input lag is nearly identical even with less 150hz (!) (wich again shows that these 360hz panels are not fully optimized, they should have way lower input lag than any 240hz because of the scanout speed)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0d-l9OyPmug

Plus, I don´t see this mentioned enough, worse PPI or Bigger screens with low resolutions, make response time worse. Why? Because there is a bigger distance between the pixels. So we must add that to the fact these 360hz panels can´t keep up with the refresh. It´s a total mess to me. I repeat, to me. I respect and accept any different opinion and someone that is actually doing better with this monitor. It´s very possible, since there were also a lot of awful 240hz models out there, and this Acer 390hz even with all its problems, is way better than A LOT of 240hz monitors I tested (I tested nearly all of them to be precise)

These are the best gaming monitors out there, in my opinion after testing (almost) everything:

AOC 24G2Z 240hz ips 0,5ms 23,8 1080p (24G2ZE without height adjustement, 24G2ZU with height adjustement)

Asus XG27AQM 270hz ips 0,5ms 27 1440p

Ozone DSP24 240hz tn 1ms 23,8 1080p (NOT the 25 inch version, using AUO panel)

Asus XG248Q 240hz tn 1ms 23,8 1080p (worse response time than the models above)

Auss VG279QM 280hz ips 0,5ms 27 1080p (AMAZING panel, but too big to me, makes me play worse with such a big size. Awful PPI too)

I suspect ViewSonic XG2431, using same panel as the AOC 24G2Z, would also make it to this list, but there is no way for me to get it on Europe.

Asus XG249CM 270hz ips 0,5ms 23,8 1080p is an upcoming monitor, that I think will also make it to this list, considering the panel used (BOE). Will try it when it launches (should have launched already)
Good day Notty! Any chance you could compose a list similar to this but for 144hz TN models? All the advice you gave before were extremely to the point (Xg2402, XG240R). I'm just wondering if there were any other releases lately, I heard from friends LG 24GL600F was comparable to Viewsonic's and bit cheaper as well. (I was out of bonds last 2 years IRL).

This weekend I have tried the AOC 24G2Z that Notty claims to be better than all 360 hz+ screens (its only 300 euro, so not that expensive). But this is absolutely not my experience, I could tell it's more responsive and no ghosting issues compared to older models in 240hz category but no where near as snappy than on this acer. I also have the AW2721D 240hz 1440p and this xv252QF is just that good that I can't even go back to 240hz anymore. Aiming and responsiveness is for me is really a huge difference. Even compared to the new generation 240hz panels/tech. The biggest difference u will notice is microaiming on 8k polling rate and corner shots plus input lag.

Mine is manufactured in march 2021.

When it comes to clarity and colors the AW2721D absolutely shits on the xv252qf, but when it comes to performance, its the total opposite, and that's the most important for me.

The only monitors that would be considered to be an upgrade is either 1440p 360hz+ or 1080p 480hz when it gets released.

Wow, that’s great that you are able to provide another point of reference for the 390 Hz vs “mature” 240 Hz debate. I have a similar experience to you, especially after now getting used to the 390 Hz monitor. Everything feels like it has incredibly low latency on this monitor. Snapping to targets and reacting is just instant. Even on games that have far under 390 FPS, like the Battlefield 2042 beta or Battlefront 2 (locked 200 FPS engine limit) it feels noticeably faster than my 240 Hz TN monitor. I’ve been hitting insane flicks in COD that I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have hit before. Whoever brought up that things feel like they’re in slow motion was right. It’s like I have more time to react and process the situation and end up flicking, firing, etc. faster than I used to. My first kill on the Battlefield beta was insane. I just loaded into my first game and didn’t know the key binds and accidentally switched to my grappling hook. Unfortunately, an enemy about 40 feet away began to shoot at me at this exact moment. In a complete panic (and all in a fraction of a second) I managed to flick to him behind me and fire the grappling hook into his head, killing him instantly. It happened so fast that I thought I still had my rifle equipped. I was blown away at the speed I could react to the situation and my precision. Maybe I could have hit it on other monitors. Personally, I don’t think I would have.

On this debate about 390Hz being too high of a refresh rate to allow good G2G transitions.

Apparently, 360Hz monitors have as good G2G transitions (if not better) as a top-tier 240Hz monitor such as XL2546K ?
Apparently, XV252QF is at least as good if not better than 360 Hz monitors?
Hence, XV252QF would be top-tier in terms of G2G transitions?

If I wanted to test whether a higher refresh rate increases ghosting (in other words, to test whether a higher refresh rate worsens motion clarity), could I not just decrease the refresh rate of my XV252QF and compare with 390Hz?
Or does the G2G response time change with the refresh rate, significantly enough that it would make such a test inappropriate? For instance, if I use my XV252QF with 240Hz, do I have the equivalent of the best 240Hz monitors? And then I can compare 390Hz vs 240Hz and see whether 240Hz is better for motion clarity?

I have never tested a 2546k with Dyac+ but tbh, the acer 390hz is for me clear enough, even without vbr and vrr. Especially if you also play on 390fps capped in combo with the 390hz.

And I have the x 25f omen, old tn panel, tested the new aoc one, own the aw2721D 1440p 240hz. And the motion handling for me is really super good, and the input/responsiveness makes up if there will ever be a more blurry situation.

Glad you got the aoc, could you provide some pictures of the ufo testing to show the difference thanks.

I dont own the AOC 24G2Z, a friend of mine has it right now. I will ask him to make ufo shots, any particular settings needed while making the photos?
