Odyssey G7 vs HP Omen 27 x

Post by tommywise » 06 May 2021, 12:04

I really dont know how to decide between these two, which one have less ghosting and clear motion during gaming? In tests i have reseachrch Omen is similar in gray to gray, or G7 is even better, but Omen have better blackto black and inverse ghosting.

Hey there,

I would stay away from Odyssey. Those monitors have too many issues for the price and its a VA panel, its the best VA but still lacks in some areas like black level smearing as you noticed. Omen X 27 is known for its amazing response times and lag but is a TN which is old, especially now in 2021 if u ask me.

But I see what you're dealing with here, you want 27" 1440p 240Hz but not as expensive as IPS.

If I assume you don't care about colors or cheap viewing angles and such things then Omen X 27 is definitely a better choice.

If u go one step down to 144, 165Hz then there are many great fast IPS options, and its cheaper than above.

you know im not competive player but i simply cant stand blur, cant concentrate to playing than and my eyes hurts, only think which i like on G7 is 32 inch, which is immersive and better black contrast. Omen after calibration got nice colours, lacks only in contrast ratio, but not too bad on TN panel i think. But 32 inch i that which is think that i cant overlook. And whats other issues than flickering on G7? As i have checked web, some latest firmware fixed this issue

If you're very sensitive to motion blur than any sample-and-hold display would not suit you. Consider getting a monitor that has good blur reduction/backlight strobing (ELMB, DYAC+, MBR, VRB...) implementation for better motion clarity - G7 has very bad blur reduction and Omen doesn't have it at all. Note that fore some people it can be hard on the yes because it flickers (viewtopic.php?p=1411#p1411) but it can always be toggled on/off.
I wanted to buy G7 32" and decided to go with VG279QM instead and here are some reasons i remember why:
- for some users flickering on G7 was still not fixed after firmware update
- Input lag can be higher in some situations, not sure when tho
- too aggressive curvature for desktop usage
- slow light to dark response times - black level smearing
- higher chance of dead pixel
- very bad MBR

Omen X 25f - basically same as X 27 (TN):

Odyssey G7 32" (fast VA):

This is how strobing (MSI Anti Motion Blur) can look on today's fast IPS panels - MAG251RX. On TN's it's a bit better.
