Monitor advice for PUBG

Post by srcn90 » 09 Jun 2021, 13:13

XL2411P vs XL2411K, which one? Or any else? Close to those monitors as price and performance... I prefer Zowie, never used before but there are so many good comments. I love high brightness also. I want TN panel but if there is an IPS panel as good as TN, of course I choose it. I can get over 200 FPS if I have to say... Thanks.

Don't buy those unless u plan to use dyac. Those monitors don't support adaptive sync.

Some other IPS recommendations:
EX2510 EX2710
VG249Q
VP249QGR
G241
24G2 (v2020) / 24G2 27G2 (v2019)

Guys, thank you but so much advice. I am more confused now. :/ EX2510 seems very good but there is not enough review and there is a post on reddit about ghosting. Can these IPS monitors give me good experience as much as fast TNs? VG249Q and VG249Q1A seem fine also, why should I choose one of these? If I get one, my mind remains on the other. I'm about to go crazy. :(

EX25/2710 is one of the better 144Hz IPS monitors out there in terms of response times/ghosting. There are alot of reviews for EX2510 if not hundreds of them, these are some:

Yes IPS can give you the same experience as TN. I used to be on 240 TN and switched to 240/280 IPS and I found IPS to be better.
In reviews you might notice TN panels are still around 1ms faster than fast IPS but in real world the motion experience is the same. You can compare some of the monitor's motion performance here - UFO Motion Test Collection

Here are some comparisons (I'll assume you don't use strobing/blur reduction)

Its 2021 and TN is old tech now, IPS is taking over and it can be found for cheap. They have better colors viewing angles, just as impressive response time (fast IPS panels from 2019-2020 and up)
Basically don't worry about it, I think most of the people will be fine if not even more satisfied with fast IPS.

I watched youtube videos about these IPS monitors today. I figured out that, if you want fast response time you have to loose brightness and this is not for me. But TNs? Full brightness and fast response time always. Am I right?

What if I get ASUS VG279QM and do not set it to 1 MS mode, will I loose much at PUBG? And it's 280 HZ by OC, but I will get less than 280 FPS, maybe 200-250, is this a problem?

You only loose brightness if you enable backlight strobing/motion blur reduction feature (every manufacturer calls this different e.g. Asus ELMB, Zowie DYAC, Acer VRB, LG MBR...) Most people don't use this so I'll suppose you don't either, so there's not brightness penalty for you. You should compare top blurier (s-a-h, sample-and-hold) ufos. The story changes if you plan to use it.

Today's monitors can achive sub 1ms only when strobing is enabled. This is how it looks disabled vs enabled

Image

Strobing can give some people headache, eyestrain because it flickers the backlight. Also you cannot use adaptive sync when it is enabled (very few monitor support strobing + adaptive sync combo and its almost always badly implemented - download/file.php?id=1297)
What is your current monitor? If it supports this feature you can compare the difference.

You can always benefit from higher refresh rate, 240 vs 144Hz. Its smoother, has less input lag, wider adaptive sync range. Its up to you to decide if it's worth it. If u played on 144Hz free/g-sync enabled monitor and you reached 145Hz/fps you'd star too see screen tearing. On 240Hz that is not the issue.
