Iiyama ProLite GB2488HSU-B1 144hz

Post by zb0t » 22 May 2014, 05:09

Hello everyone!

I just tried to look on the forum but I can't find any review/test for this monitor, I'm not sure if it's been sold everywhere yet because I can only see it on French websites, where two tech websites gave it the highest mark 5/5 stars.
It doesn't support 3D, it doesn't have a technology such as Motion blur reduction from Benq, it only has a Direct drive and Overdrive mode, this monitor can be interesting due to its lower price, that's another reason I thought Chief might have gotten one for a more detailed review!

So anyone here or even Chief will get their hands on it anytime soon?

From review: It's a shame that Iiyama sticks with USB 2.0 ports rather than USB 3.0 and that you can't use the Overdrive function with the Direct Drive mode.
Overdrive is for faster pixel transition time. Direct Drive is for faster frame transition time - input lag. So you can use only 1 of 2. This is kinda odd.
That model have another bug: Overdrive aren't available 1920x1080@144hz but can be fixed by new firmware. How to apply this new firmware and will Overdrive function with the Direct Drive mode work together at 144hz is a question.
You can also compare input lag and response time of XL2420Z and other 144hz models review from same site (digitalversus.com) and understand Iiyama isn't faster. I'm almost sure panel is same as at XL2411T/Z, XL2420T/TE, VG248QE.
And about price it's very geolocated thing. For me:
243eu BenQ XL2411Z
291eu Iiyama GB2488HSU
300eu BenQ XL2420Z
308eu ASUS VG248QE

The only bad thing about this monitor is that it doesn't support LightBoost...

Also Overdrive and Direct Drive problem for players who prefers use 144hz without strobing tech.

Guys, i buyed this monitor everything is fine but in menu monitor in information its shows 143.3hz instead of 144hz. Is thats fine or not?
Its my first 140 hz monitor, connected via DisplayPort, btw should i switch 'on' direct drive in menu and what it gives?

It's ok. Reboot PC and you will see another value than 143.3Hz.
Wikipedia says "Overdrive, a technology used to reduce response times of Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs)". Direct drive must be Iiyama's proprietary overdrive tech. Leave it ON.

There was a firmware update for the overdrive+directdrive problem at 144hz
