Hi, friends, hoping some more experienced users could help me get to the bottom of a strange issue I'm having. My old monitor is an Asus PG258Q. I recently purchased an Asus VG259QM and Zowie XL2546K in an effort to upgrade my main monitor and have consistent refresh across multiple monitors.
To put it simply, both the VG259QM and XL2546K are exhibiting what I can only describe as not 'true' 240hz. It's very subtle and you can only really notice if you look closely, but it has impacted my in game performance dramatically. It almost looks like stuttery behavior during high motion.
I purchased the VG259QM first and thought it was because "Fast IPS" wasn't fast enough yet and I was sensitive to the marketed '1ms response time' not actually being close to 1ms. So I then purchased the Zowie expecting to have a better time back on a TN panel marketed toward E-Sports with a 'truer' 240hz experience. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
The strangest part is that my old Asus PG258Q kind of beats them both in terms of motion clarity. The only setting I have on that enabled is "Normal " OD setting recommended by tftcentral at my time of purchase.
I've tried every combination of Dyac/Overdrive/Overclock/Monitor settings on the VG259QM and XLK2546K to no avail. I've swapped between Display Port/HDMI, changed ports, tried only one monitor plugged in, went to lower refresh rates and I can't seem to find a solution or explanation for this strange phenomenon.
At this point, I'm just looking for an explanation. Are both of my monitors that I've purchased using cheaper alternatives to achieve 240hz as opposed to having a strong native panel? I'm unfamiliar with the different panels manufacturers chose to put into their monitors. I've noticed that both of my new monitors 240hz resolutions are housed in a "PC" section for Nvidia control panel instead of the "PC, HD, SD" section. I've also noticed that both report values like "239.711" in the display properties.
Sorry for the long winded explanation, appreciate any help and insight!

Verify that 240Hz is actually used by the games. Check the monitor's current mode in its OSD when a game is running. It should show something like "1920x1080 @ 240Hz".

Use these timings.
(Benq Realtek scaler 240hz monitors).
H: 1920, 24, 32, 25, 81, 2001
V: 1080, 3, 5, 152, 160, 1240
Ref: 240.000 hz
Hor: 297.601 khz
Pixel: 595.50 mhz

I tried replying to both of you earlier but it didn't seem to post my replies.
It displays "1920x1080 @ 240Hz" on the OSD for every game I play.
I've tried multiple configurations of the VT tweak, different monitor timings in CRU, to no avail. I cannot get this monitor to not tear/stutter no matter what. I'm so confused and frustrated. I think I'll just go back to my old monitor.

i also have the same problem as you, i have an alienware 1440p 240hz, and also in games like valorant and overwatch where i far exceed 240 fps, the monitor tear and stutters me. I tried to use another monitor that I have at 360hz, and with that no problem. i changed gpu then, i have both an nvidia 2070 and an amd rx6900xt, always using DDU to properly remove the drivers, and nothing i came to the conclusion that the monitor is faulty. but will it really be so?Ynot_iwal wrote: ↑03 Jul 2021, 19:59I tried replying to both of you earlier but it didn't seem to post my replies.

Try 180hz instead of 240hz and report back.
you can create these timings in ToastyX CRU.
You may simply need a mouse higher than 1000hz. 240hz is poor for some people with 1000hz mice and it has nothing to do with the monitor.

V: 1080, 3, 5, 412, 420, 1500
Refresh: 180
Horizontal: 270
Pixel: 561.60
if this doesn't give a signal, try
V: 1080, 3, 5, 262, 270, 1350
Refresh

Pixel: 505.44
If that's perfectly smooth then the problem is your mouse most likely as 240hz often performs very poorly with 1000hz mice but great with 2000hz mice.

Just got done trying all of those settings in CRU. Didn't seem to help at all. I am beyond confused. It looks almost as if the monitor is throttling between 240 almost all the way down to 140 intermittently with stutter. I'm so surprised how unsmooth the response time of this monitor is. My PG258Q still looks better in terms of motion clarity and smoothness.
Do I just have a bad panel? I have the freesync on the monitor turned off. I have an Nvidia GPU, I just tried a rollback to an older GPU driver. Ran some more crude tests with the PG258Q and the XL2546K mirrored and the closest thing I could seem to get to maybe even being remotely in the right direction was that while I had the custom timings in CRU for 240hz applied with the monitors mirrored, it forced the XL2546K to GPU scaling and 'seemed' a bit smoother with AMA on 'High'. It can't be the Display scaler being bad can it?

Do the various https://www.testufo.com tests look ok on the display at the specific resolution you're using?
