Here's my recommended OD gain settings per refresh rate (I used the pursuit frog program with ELMB sync enabled and tested each OD gain setting until I didn't see any or minimal overshoot without sacrificing response times)

75 hz - OD gain 2 / OD 0C has noticeable overshoot
85 hz - OD gain 3 / OD 0C has slightly less noticeable overshoot than 75 hz
96 hz - OD gain 3 / OD 0C has slightly less noticeable overshoot than 85hz
100 hz - OD gain 3 / OD 0C has slightly less noticeable overshoot than 85 hz (not bad)
120 hz - OD gain 5 / OD 0C has slightly less noticeable overshoot than 100hz (not bad, won't notice in game)
144 hz - OD gain 6 / OD 0C has slightly less noticeable overshoot than 120hz (won't notice in game)
165 hz - OD gain 0A/ OD gain 0C is optimal and there's a super slight overshoot that you won't notice in game
240hz - OD gain 0C is the best and no overshoot
270hz - OD gain 12 / OD 0C is still good with no noticible blur

I don't know why asus didn't use OD 3 for elmb sync. From my testing it's much better picture quality with either minimal or none existent overshoot. OD 4 imo is a little too much for even 270 hz. I think 10 is the sweet spot (even 12 if you want to help some slow transitions but to my measly human eye, 10 is best with no overshoot at 270 and even 0C was good with minimal blur added to image in motion that you realistically won't see in game)

Hey Shadowfox,

Did you ever figure out how to save settings when you go into the monitor settings??

Sorry to bug Just wondering??

Thanks to everyone that made all those tests, your reviews are really interesting ! I've bought that monitor 2 weeks ago and coming from a PG279Q (the first real QHD 165hz 27" ) that was 5 yo, I can say that the improvments were worth the price, for me at least.
Nevertheless, being not such a fan of ELMB since it is terribly rendering the image darker and reduces significantly the brightness for competitve games, I wonder what would you recommand me to use for my settings.

Basically, I need to play PUBG and CS at a competitive level (tournaments, Faceit etc...), at the highest refresh rate possible, with the less input lag possible, very high brightness, smooth (no stutters) motions. I've seen that feature, for instance, on nvidia panel, manage 3D settings : Latency mode : "ultra" is it influencing the input lag ? Which OD should I use if I am not using neither Gsync nor ELMB ?

Should I use the Gsync ? (I was not using it on my PG279 because i could feel the small input lag that gsync was bringing on cs and pubg)
If yes, with which overdrive ? (I didnt get the figures you were talking about 10 ? 11 ? 12 ? etc while the menu is proposing 0 to 5 OD), can you explain me your conversion method please ?

Notes: I ve bought all my hardware for that purpose : extremly high reactivity, brightness, at a very high refresh rate (that reduces naturally the native input lag, being in 270hz and having 120fps is still less input laggy than being at 144hz with 120fps).
PC : 3080Ti FTW ultra, 10900KF @5.4, 32GB of Crucial 3600@C14, Asus Rog Maximus Formula and of course the XG279AQM. Win 10 Pro, latest version.

I wanted also to express my feeling about the native colors (out of the box) delivered with my sample. the sRGB mode is somehow way less accurate than it was on my PG279Q, I still have both of them on my desk, and their sRGB profiles arnt the same at all. How come ? I prefer the color of my PG for desktop/office usage than my XG. Do you feel the same ?

Thank you in advance for your answers!

If you are going g-sync and not using ELMB, wouldn't the PG279QM or AW2721D be better?

You mean ELMB or ELMB-SYNC off? It would be just slightly better because they have variable overdrive. But it's not worth the extra money.

By the way, having an Asus motherboard with Aura sync, there is also an aura sync on the xg279AQM, but not recongized by the motherboard, do you have that issue ? (USB cable is connected on the pc)

I have not figured it out. I assume this isn't a bug but a feature since normal users shouldn't be accessing the service menu.

Last question guys, every reviews (the few we can find on internet) are saying that this monitor is perfectly calibrated out of the box...
Which I do not think so. Racing mode is the mode by default ? sRGB is kinda very dark and redish and I didnt manage to find a perfect settings for offices purposes since we can not modify the sRGB profile, like I had on my PG279Q that had a perfect sRGB profile.
No ICC profile available so far on internet. And windows HDR "on" gives a weird dynamic contrast that I can not remove according to black or white chrome pages, changing the contrast and brightness when HDR is on.
What do you think about that ?

For games tho, profiles are good, I can not disagree on that.

Thank you
