ASUS vg25 280hz monitor always resets to 144 hz, can anyone help me fix?

As stated. Got the monitor a few months ago, did the overclock, set some setting recommended here in these forums, and began to enjoy the monitor.

I don’t know how or when, but at some point, things got set to 144hz in Windows. Games weren’t feeling right anymore so I decided to check settings and there it was. Had to enter the monitor settings and turn things off and on again until it reads 279.4 or whatever in Windows.

I may have not been receiving 240+ performance for a while TBH. Sucks. Why did it reset and how can I make sure it stops?

It has done it several times since. PC reboots seem to be making it reset.

It seems to happen randomly from time to time, me and my friend both experienced this issue on our VG259QM monitors. I have no idea how to prevent it from happening :( It doesn't seem to happen too often though.

Have you tried deleting the 144hz resolution in CRU? I had this issue with League of Legends due to the game not supporting 280hz and resetting to 144hz (and for some reason prioritizing it over 240hz)

Hmmmm TY man, at least I now it’s not just me. It’s quick to fix and easy to check, so I guess I just have to make a habit out of it.

That’s quite the list of monitors you’ve got there lol. You’re one experienced dude. Any tips on how to set up mine with nvidia panel? I play rocket league and I’ve only ever messed with the monitor settings once. Not sure what I should or shouldn’t set as my nvidia settings, plus then my in game settings. Just wanted to know what gets me the lowest input lag. Thanks.

For the lowest possible input lag in competitive play you just want overkill frame rate with no sync, simple as that, so just set fps to unlimited and disable any sync methods (FreeSync/G-SYNC/V-SYNC). If your PC can sustain very high fps, this is the best for the lowest input lag.

Awesome thanks I’ll try it. Does sync offer me any advantages but with a small input delay cost? What are this advantages? Just no tearing?

Basically yes. Variable refresh rate methods (FreeSync, G-SYNC) just grant you the smoothest visuals with no tearing or stuttering (unless stutters are game engine induced) while having a minimal impact on latency. I suggest you try playing with both unlimited unsynced fps as well as with G-SYNC to find out what feels/looks better for you. If your frame rate fluctuates much then using G-SYNC is a good idea.

Also remember that G-SYNC must be set properly to work as intended, for example fps cap below refresh rate is required to keep G-SYNC in its operational range. If your monitor is 280 Hz, you should cap your fps at 277 fps with G-SYNC enabled (if fps exceeds refresh rate, G-SYNC no longer works). Here's the tutorial on how to properly set G-SYNC :)

Awesome man ty so much. Am I correct that I cannot use the ELMB feature at the same time as gsync? I was thinking of turning gsync off and just using ELMB instead. Do I have to do anything in nvidia control oaken for ELMB? Like turn off gsync there? Out the settings back to default? Stop using “ultra low latency mode” or anything like that?
