Locking 48fps on 143.981hz monitor

Post by warface9991 » 24 Jul 2021, 16:58

I have LG 24GL600F monitor. It's 144hz monitor but it's actually and normally not precisely 144hz. So, I want to divide 143.981hz by 3 but as you know it's not possible to write that numbers on RTSS. My question is: how can I divide this number by 3? Or should I not care to divide it precisely and set fps limiter to 48fps? I don't want it to judder as well. Thank you for all questions in advance.

1 -- You can use a Custom Resolution Utility and create a more divisible resolution like (23.976fps * 6) or (24.000fps * 6). CRU software like ToastyX CRU and NVIDIA Control Panel lets you create custom refresh rates in 0.001 Hz increments.

2 -- You can use a VRR-compatible video player. If you have a Radeon card, you can use ToastyX CRU to edit FreeSync range a bit lower, such as 45Hz, to give room for 48fps without LFC, and use a precision framepaced player. I'd recommend SMPlayer/MPV as a VRR-compatible player that can play any frame rate within FreeSync range. This is easier at 60fps, since 48fps is often at FreeSync's minimum Hz and may cause LFC stutter, but you can tweak your way out of LFC, even using a higher VRR minimum to force 96Hz LFC for 48fps material.

3 -- You can test the player and see if it plays without stutter visible to your eyes. For a well-framepaced video player, it is only a rare 1/6th stutter (17% deviation), much less visible than a stutter at 24Hz (100% deviation) or 48Hz (50% deviation).

Basically, the judder-jump would only increase/decrease by 17%, and you might not care. That said, there would be a far bigger judder/stutter problem with 60fps video material than with 24fps video material.

Thanks for your detailed answer, really. But I actually asked about gaming framerates. I am really sorry for not specifying the question and spending your time for the detailed answer.
