I just ordered this monitor based on the stellar reviews here and went through pages and pages of setting recommendation on here. I'm not a super informed person when it comes to monitors. I just wanted help to use settings that will give me as close to the following as possible. I play games competitively, and I currently have an i9-10900k, RTX 3090 setup:
1. Get as close to 1ms GTG response times as possible
2. Don't mind a refresh rate between 200-240hz. Not below that (I don't want to play at 120hz for which I see a lot of settings here)
3. Reduce motion blur as much as possible. (I understand I can never get this level of clarity at 200+ HZ, but hoping for a good medium
I don't understand half the settings on the OSD. All I want is the above. What should I set OD to? What about the touted PureXP+? What setting should that be on? Any other settings recommendations?

I need to minimize input lag for competitive play. My first priority is this, and then it’s to minimize blur.
Re: Best settings for Blur Buster recommended XG270?
GtG response time does not affect input lag. That's why I was askingjujuTheGhost wrote: ↑21 Aug 2021, 14:24I need to minimize input lag for competitive play. My first priority is this, and then it’s to minimize blur.
GtG is controlled through the monitor's Overdrive setting. Usually what you want is to not minimize GtG, but to minimize ghosting and reverse-ghosting (which are more technical terms for "blur.") This is usually achieved though the default value of this setting. But you can test yourself here by adjusting the setting while having this page open:
https://www.testufo.com/ghosting
You would choose the overdrive setting that results in the least amount of ghosting.

Due to the complexity of the lag chain, GtG does (in a rube-goldberg, roundabout way) affect latency. Not directly.
If you have a latency test benchmark a "button-to-photons" latency test, that stops the lag-stopwatch at GtG50%, then a faster GtG50% definitely reduces the lag benchmark.
However, artifacts (e.g. excessive ghosting/coronas) can otherwise slow down human reaction times in other cases -- since motion artifacts may or may not obscure your ability to identify objects. the HUMAN is also part of the input lag chain -- things can speed up reaction time such as brighter image, less motion blur, lower latency, good fast GtG100% without overshoot, etc.
For XG2431 specifically -- if you want to use strobing, one of the best low-lag strobing settings is 224Hz because it's much clearer than 240Hz.

I there a setup guide somewhere that explains everything? Last time I made any tweaks on a monitor was like 5 years ago, and when I get the XG2431 I want to get the best performance out of it when playing on Xbox Series X.Chief Blur Buster wrote: ↑24 Aug 2021, 22:19For XG2431 specifically -- if you want to use strobing, one of the best low-lag strobing settings is 224Hz because it's much clearer than 240Hz.
I assume things are a little different when the target is 120hz@1080p instead of the native 240hz and that's what I'm not sure about.

I'm not talking about machines. I'm talking about input lag as perceived by humans.Chief Blur Buster wrote: ↑24 Aug 2021, 22:19Due to the complexity of the lag chain, GtG does (in a rube-goldberg, roundabout way) affect latency. Not directly.

XG2431 is already very well tuned all the way to 240Hz, so you don't need a 224Hz preset.AM_acc1q wrote: ↑24 Aug 2021, 23:07I there a setup guide somewhere that explains everything? There's a Strobe Tuning HOWTO at www.blurbusters.com/xg2431
No tuning is required for 1080p60 or 1080p120 for a console, because good strobe tuning presets are already built-in to the ViewSonic XG2431.

Cool, thanks! Re: Best settings for Blur Buster recommended XG270?
is there anything magical about the 224hz mark? I'm assuming that this clarity is the result of (a small amount of) refresh rate headroom, though I'm surprised to hear that just 0.3ms provides a "much clearer" result. is there anything about the xg2431 or its panel that benefits itself more from that small amount of headroom vs another product?Chief Blur Buster wrote: ↑24 Aug 2021, 22:19For XG2431 specifically -- if you want to use strobing, one of the best low-lag strobing settings is 224Hz because it's much clearer than 240Hz.
