The Asus Strix XG27AQ has high input lag at 60 Hz. Is that a problem? My RTX 3070 should be able to keep the lowest refresh rate well above 60 Hz but maybe at 80Hz the input lag will still be annoyingly high. Here is a chart from RTings comparing the input lag of the Asus and a Gigabit M27Q. RTings says anything less than 15ms is good and a difference of 5ms is noticeable. At 60 Hz the input lag of the Asus is 32 Hz which is 4 times slower.
Unless you are using any consoles, you should not worry about input lag at 60hz, it does not reflect VRR input lag even if you get 60 fps.

Thanks again, Xehet! I've learned a lot from this forum already.

I didn't see RTINGS reviewed it and didn't know other asus monitors have this 60Hz lag issue. Till now I knew only VG25/279QM had it.
Don't worry about it because the lag will be high only if u set your resolution and refresh to fixed e.g. 2560x1440@60Hz (native@60). Otherwise if you use it at 2560x1440@170Hz (native@170) there is no lag. Also if you enable adaptive-sync and your fps goes down to 60 there will be no lag. This basically means only games that don't support higher rr than 60Hz will have the lag.

Thanks, Discorz!

I've had the Asus XG27AQ for three days now and I love it. In a week I went from a 60hz 1440p 25" monitor and SLI GTX 970 4G graphics cards to a 170 Hz 1440p Adaptive sync 27" monitor and an RTX 3070 8G graphics card. 27" is ideal for me and faster is better too. I've been playing with ELMG, and other settings. I thought I would want to use different setting for games than general use but it is a bit of a chore to switch between saved favorites so I might just use Adaptive Sync, at least for now.

The FPS get up to about 250 while playing Titanfall 2 and the GPU temp gets to about 88 C at times while the monitor is set to 144 Hz. I thought the frame rate couldn't exceed the refresh rate. Anyway, 88 C seems too hot so, using Afterburner, I decreased the voltage to 90% and I decreased the max temp to 80 C. I also adjusted the 3070 fan speed curve to ramp up faster. On the other hand, Far Cry 5 hasn't had as huge a performance increase. It stays below 110 FPS and the max temp is 70 C. FC5 is a 2018 game and Titanfall 2 is a 2016 game but Titanfall 2 seems to have much better performance.

To me, the most conspicuous aspect of the Asus XG27AQ is the quality of the hardware. It seems solid, tough, and precise.

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement.

By the way, this was a returned monitor that Amazon Warehouse sold as "Like New". It is like new and I couldn't find any bad pixels. I've bought several things from Amazon Warehouse and it has all been good and nicely discounted.
