Hi,
First post here
After amassing quite a collection of CRT TVs, I've finally pulled the trigger on a 21" Apple Studio Display CRT monitor. I'm in love with the thing, and I've been admiring the blacks all day, but I'm still having one little problem.
Unfortunately, the display doesn't seem to want to achieve the maximum resolution it should support. The specs online say it should do all of these:
640 x 480 / 85 Hz
800 x 600 / 85 Hz
832 x 624 / 75 Hz
1024 x 768 / 85 Hz
1152 x 870 / 75 Hz
1280 x 1024 / 85 Hz
1600 x 1200 / 85 Hz
Now I doubt that 85hz is really the limit for the lower resolutions, but that doesn't matter much to me anyway. The issue is that about 1280x1024, I'm locked to a maximum of 60. The monitor will even pretend to be compatible with 1600x1200@85 if I set it as a custom resolution in the nVidia control panel, but when I activate it, it's a pixelated mess. The fact that I'm getting such blocky pixels leads me to believe it's a bandwidth issue on the digital end, but the adapter I'm using is the official Apple Mini DP to VGA one. If it is the adapter, I have no idea what to buy that will actually have enough bandwidth. If it's a software issue, I imagine getting the right drivers for this thing is a pain. But I'd really like to be able to use it at 1600x1200 without flicker, so any help would be appreciated.
