Game is capped at 250fps

Post by BTRY B 529th FA BN » 13 Sep 2021, 22:44

So I play a game that's capped at 250fps, I also frequently play CS:GO.. i can push high fps with my 5800x and 3080Ti. I'm finding I like using BFI/Motion Blur Reduction, however, Input lag @360Hz is lower/better. So as I'm playing more and more with MBR I'm trying to gauge if switching to a different monitor would be best for me. Currently I'm considering the 390Hz Acer/Aopen or the VG279QM (again)

Can you adjust the MBR refresh rate on the Acer/Aopen? e.g. MBR @ 250Hz Same question for the VG279QM. I understand that with the Acer/Aopen the input lag will increase if I use a lower refresh rate vs say sticking with the 280Hz + MBR on the VG279QM.

The input lag on the VG279QM is nearly the same, according to RTINGS, as my 360Hz but the scannout is faster being @360hz. The VG279QM seems like a really good option.

If clarity is better with the Acer/Aopen with MBR this would seem like the obvious choice. But I prefer playing UT4 which is the 250fps capped game, and I'm a little hesitant with problems that might show up with MBR @ 390Hz at a 250fps capped game.

You must of already seen the Acer/Aopen UFOs at 240 and 390Hz. Its mbr clarity is not that impressive tbh. Only good thing about XV is price. PG is actually sharper, clearer. It's just stuck with 240 (for a reason) and has some overshoot and lag with mbr.
VG is a similar story. 280Hz strobing with locked high overshoot but better lag and crosstalk isn't great.

One of the solution would be to just play at 360Hz non-strobed. This way you don't have to buy anything. I'm saying this because I can barely tell the difference between mbr off or on (based on my VG279QM @280), It is soo subtle. But thats me.
But hey, try the XG2431. That one should be very fun to play with. And its flexible.

The PG259Q is sharper and clearer? Almost every reviewer I have seen has said that the Acer 390 Hz is better in essentially every way, and I have heard it described as more of a refinement of the original 360 Hz monitors. Can you clarify how it’s less sharp and less clear? Anyway, I ordered one for myself that will be here in a few weeks. Also, don’t forget about another good thing the XV252QF has going for it. It has the lowest input lag of any monitor on the market. Even accounting for the extra 30 Hz, it still beats the ASUS by more than that extra interval. In fact, with its backlight strobing mode on, it still has lower latency than the PG259Q with backlight strobing off.

Current pricing at a local PC brick and mortar store,

AOpen = $449
Asus VG = $339

30day money back guarantee.

Online the XG2431 is $349 but unavailable

One thing I've noticed about ULMB with this PG is that it can stutter or feel oddly laggy sometimes. I'm beginning to think it's a system lag that differs from map to map with UT4. This might be true with other games, too. I know certain parts of a map called HUE City in Rising Storm: Vietnam, are crazy laggy, while other maps run extremely smooth. It also doesn't lock onto ULMB when games start e.g. CS:GO. With CS:GO I'll have to reach to the back of the monitor and select ULMB through the OSD. It detects it but when CS:GO is booted up it doesn't lock on. Other games are fine like UT4, Rising Storm...

It probably is better in other section, but not in mrb. That monitor is half way tuned. Blur reduction in general is good for low Hz but as refresh rate increases, mbr benefits decrease. Plus the narrower refresh window at 390 requires faster response times.
I can see why acer did and nvidia didn't support mbr at 360. Nvidia understood it, but Acer was like why not.

I want to note that I didn't try or experience the Acer XV, but ufos are not lying (there are some ufo speed variations).

Here are some ufos. Compare only same setting situations.

How is the Samsung G7? RTINGS gives it really good input lag with MBR

So what would be the best MBR monitor with the lowest input lag?

EDIT: I seem to frag better with MBR/ULMB on vs Fixed Refresh in all games.

Very possibly XG2431 since it can do great QFT.

Give your self a challenge and game without ULMB for a few weeks.
