VG259qm vs MAG251RX vs AOC24G2ZU

Post by JustPeterinanutshell » 14 Sep 2021, 05:46

Hey guys,

I mainly play CS and Valoranc and want to get a 240hz monitor. I red a lot of threads and reviews but still cant really deside which one to get. Since im in EU i cant get the new Viewsonic here so my decision is going to be between these 3. The AOC24G2ZU looks pretty good and juice but it hasnt backlight strobing and i dont really know if it is a must have for CS/Valorant?

24G2ZU does have MBR (strobing). At least that is what user manual states, page 18: https://eu.aoc.com/en/gaming/products/m ... /downloads
Its should be under 'Overdrive' Boost or MBR. Note that AOC does a poor job tuning their MBR. They usually make it very dim.
In case of badly tuned MBR it is not a must. But at least you can try it out.

Dell's S2522HG can be found cheap depending on your country. That one really doesn't have MBR. Its a better quality monitor overall tho.

Hey thanks for ur answer.
Is the VG259QM or the MAG251RX a better option than maybe the Dell or the AOC?

For strobing I'd recommend XG2431 but that thing is impossible to buy right now.
But if u insist between those two than MAG251RX would be just slightly better than VG.
I'd still buy S2522HG since I prefer adaptive sync over mbr.

I read the MAG251RX is pretty low on brightness with backlight strobing activ? And isnt adaptive sync in games like CS/Valorant bad because of the input lag or response time(dont know which one it influences)?

Yes, it might be a bit dimmer. But that depends on what brightness do you prefer. I personally like it very low because my eyes hurt when its too bright.
VG has more overshoot which is the reason why I said MAG is better and on both monitors overdrive setting is locked with ELMB enabled. They're not perfect.

Actually enabling any MBR/BFI usually introduces more lag than adaptive sync. https://i.ibb.co/GVpVz5V/input-lag-native-vrr-bfi-3.png
Some competitive gamers prefer all off and some don't.

EDIT:
I found some ufo pursuits of 24G2ZU. Watch only top row which is 240Hz. I can't confirm much from these shots but looks ok.

Without ELMB is the MAG still better? even with 40hz less?
I found this video to the AOC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knk-Ayarf04 It seems as it is a good budget pick but i guess when the MAG is better i go for the MAG.

As usual AOC is very possibly dimmer than MAG. But this just a guess. There are multiple levels of strobe duration, lower ones giving more brightness but less clarity. I've heard multiple reviewers mentioning that highest level of overdrive Strong doesn't have any overshoot which is a good news.

I wonder why do you want mbr in first place? What got you into this? First you must know how to use it properly to benefit from it.

VG279QM is same as VG259QM but it has extremely low input lag with ELMB or ELMB-SYNC. Almost no lag increase whatsoever. One of the best it that department.

Note that utilizing any MBR properly can be a real pain in the a*se. :/
