ASUS PG279QM help!

Post by Mobile_Kimchee » 19 Sep 2021, 11:37

hello all, I'm new here and in need of some desperate help. This is my 3rd attempt at upgrading my monitor, a Asus Tuf VG27AQL1A. So far I've gone through and returned a LG UltraGear 27GN75B-B 27, ALIENWARE 27 GAMING MONITOR - AW2721D and now this Asus PG279QM (haven't returned it yet). All 3 have given me the same issue. I'm using a certified DP cable and a 3090 which do great on my current monitor, so to me I feel its a Nvidia or windows setting. I can't get the picture quality as sharp as my current display, it look as though its displaying in 1080P and not 2560 x 1440, its just not sharp. Picture looks dull and washed out on everything, windows, games and videos. I've DDU'd my Nvidia drivers and did a fresh install of the most updated driver, I've tried different DP cables, my display properties show I'm on 2560 x 1440 recommended at 240 Hz. Please help!

What current monitor is this that u have? If I understood correctly you're having issues matching to your old monitor sharpness? Does it look like sharpness or resolution related issue? Check if your old monitor had cranked sharpness filter.

I been using a Asus Tuf VG27AQL1A and it has sharpness adjustment and vivid pixel but this new monitor does not. It’s a cross between sharpness and out of focus I guess.

I think what you are describing doesn't sound like a problem from all the new monitors you mentioned but rather a problem with your current/old monitor.

I believe you might be used to an oversharpened image from your current monitor. If you have done DDU and tried the cables that came with the monitors that you bought then the image should be as intended.

Sharpness usually doesn't exist on monitors because any sharpness applied is usually not the intended image.

Have you tried adjusting ClearType, and made sure you're actually running at native res without any form of scaling or overscan?

It's also possible you're just noticing the slightly lower contrast ratio of some modern IPS panels when directly compared to your previous monitor, which can easily create a hazier, less contrasty, more washed-out look. Gamma settings can also have an effect on this and perceived sharpness.
