need advice on choosing 240hz 1080p monitor

Post by Rnaldo » 20 Sep 2021, 13:38

This is going to be my secondary monitor and my primary use for it is going to be rocket league.

I'm not going to use DYAC or any type of backlight strobing.

right now I'm thinking of either the vg259qm or xl2540k, I feel like I've heard more negative things about the vg259qm and can't really find much info about people's experiences with the xl2540k.

I'm kind of leaning towards xl2540k.

I've heard of the MAG251RX but it costs $60 more than the vg259qm and xl2540k. is it really worth $60 more?

and yes, I'm aware of the xg2431 but it could be another month or two before it's actually available in USA and then id want to wait another few months on top of that so I could read people's reviews on it before I actually buy it, just for in case it has some terrible problems like the aw2521hf image retention or who knows what.

I'm pretty sure the MAG251RX,VG259QM, and AW2521HF use the same panel, but the aw2521hf seems to have the most problems with image retention based off all the posts I've read about it. If they do all use the same panel, I feel like that alone already disqualifies them from being a choice, and leaves basically the xl2540k as the only choice unless I want to wait 5 months for xg2431( and there's a chance it could suck) or spend $500-$700 for a more expensive one, which I'm not willing to do.

So should I just get the xl2540k? or tell me why I'm wrong and what I should get instead.

Edit: apparently the xl2540k has pixel inversion artifacts so I guess every single monitor has some sort of problem.

No need for TN in 2021, especially if you don't use strobing. same goes for XG2431 in your case. My recommendation is Dell S2522HG. There is not much info on it but expect same performance as AW2521HF. In my country S25 is very cheap.

Image retention is not permanent. It disappeares after few minutes and you will never come across it unless u use something like TestUFO.

Yeah definitely not recommending the XL2540K, the VG259QM imo is way better than the XL2546K so it’s definitely better than the XL2540K

I hadn't really seen the S2522HG, I really like the look of it way more than all these other monitors.

alright, thanks.

so I guess I'll try out one of those 2 monitors.

I love the look of the S2522HG and it has USB ports but I could get the VG259QM for $20 less and it has 40hz more than the dell. guess I just have to decide what's more important to me.

Note, VG has bad lag at fixed 60Hz.

Okay, thanks for letting me know. I can't think of a reason that I would ever need to have it at 60hz so it shouldn't be a problem for me if I did get it.

I think I'm gonna go for the dell if I do end up trying a 240hz 1080p monitor within the next few weeks(or maybe I'll end up waiting another year). I hate that the VG259QM says "TUF GAMING" on the stand, the dell looks 100x better and the USB ports would be useful.

Well if Dell is more expensive, than VG would be a better buy. But S25 will do good if u don't need blur reduction.

Yeah the design is basic. It's not bezelless as I used to think before buying VG27. Kinda got surprised when I opened the box.

Please do let me know how you like the Dell since there is no much info.

Hi,
I have the Dell S2522HG monitor. Initially, I wanted VG259QM but for some reason, it is out of stock in my country and no ETA. So I got the Dell instead as all other 240Hz monitors are more expensive. I'm glad I went with S2522HG as it is cheaper than Asus and more importantly it has 4 USB outs, which is kind of important for me as I'm out of USB ports on the laptop.

I don't need blur reduction (as it will reduce the brightness), just need a fast display with adjustable height and not so 'gaming' looking monitor.

Coming from a Dell 27" 60Hz to 24.5" requires a bit of adjustment due to the smaller screen size but it is actually spot-on for 1080p gaming. But the jump from 60Hz to 240Hz is staggering.

That is great. How do you like the response times? Are you willing to do UFO Test camera pursuit? If yes I can give a quick guide on how to.
