getting A new monitor - XL2546K or PG259QN

Post by b0t » 05 Oct 2021, 05:03

hi guys, I currently own VG248QE and XL2540.

I mainly play CS:GO, but nowadays even more of CoD4:ProMod - that is capped to 250FPS(!!!)

on CS:GO there's this new tendency to cap it to 400fps for the new 360Hz lineup I guess.

but with CoD's 250 cap, would I benefit from 360hz at all? or only in CS?

and what about the XL2546K, is it a decent upgrade over the XL2540?

I want to buy one of the two in the next few days, the difference in price here in Israel is about 300$, so I really dont want to make a "mistake"..

so my question is... how bad is 360hz@250fps over 240hz@250fps?

and how's the XL2546K over the XL2540

I would by far and away get a Viewsonic XG270 over either. It's literally the only IPS on the market with motion clarity comparable to a CRT. If you don't need a monitor with a higher refresh rate or better pq, there's no reason not to choose the Viewsonic if it's in the same price bracket.

Actually I did ask about the PG259QN ...which means I'm pretty much considering buying it.
and the biggest problem where I live is that it takes Viewsonic ages to ship and start selling a new display in my country..
I mean we have the XG2402 out of stock since 2019 and the XG270 / XG2431 isnt available either.. I would march and get the 2431 if I could.. but viewsonic is an out-of-reach lovestory for me, that's why I asked about PG259QN vs XL2546K exclusively

P.S. **strobing / MBR technology and quality is very important to me as I've used the VG248QE with 120hz lightboost@10% back in the day and XL2540 with hidden MBR ON.

so consider that when u guys recommend either of the two. I did read that the XL2546K has phenomenal motion clarity..
and that the PG259QN's ULMB is limited only to 240hz(?)

Max Hz and max fps will get you least amount of input lag (just don't max out the gpu utilization). But realistically the lag difference between 240 and 360Hz is very small.

I'd say if u don't use blur reduction (dyac, purexp) than avoid TN panels, its 2021 afterall. Cross out the overpriced PG ang consider XV252QF / 25XV2QF. XG270 is also overpriced for its features, but for those who need good 119 or 75Hz strobing its a must. Don't forget about the new Blur Busters Approved 2.0 XG2431.

XV252QF 390 Hz has backlight strobing at all the way up to 390 Hz. It also has 30 Hz more than the Asus monitor and measurably lower overall latency (as confirmed by multiple reviews). It's also cheaper.

I honestly think that 390Hz is overkill, and also dont trust Acer too much since the old days..
Im sure even without in-depth testing that Benq/ASUS strobing is way better..

so my dilemma stays.. its PG259QN vs XL2546K only..

btw is it true that the ASUS can ULMB up to 240hz only? no ulmb @ 360hz?

And also I went over the PG259QN thread and Chief mentioned that there are drawback when using 1000hz mice with 360hz, should I just go for the XL2546K then? I dont think any decent company will release over 1000hz STABLE sensors any time soon ...

The Acer is better in every way to the ASUS unless you use G-SYNC. It has lower latency with strobing on than the ASUS has with it off - a very impressive result! It has 30 more Hz, strobing up to 390 Hz, and in my opinion, an awesome stand. But you do you.

Yes, the ASUS only does it up to 240 Hz.

I use an 8K Hz Viper and it works very well. The difference is easily noticeable at 390 Hz.

360 and 390Hz is the same thing. More hertz never hurts.

Ever since XV released all other 360Hz models basically became pointless. G-SYNC module made them overpriced. There really is no point in buying same monitor (that does better in few thing) for more money, unless you care about the aesthetics. I guess if u don't want Acer then go with AW2521H wich can be found for cheaper than PG. It's the same panel.

Yes, PG can strobe up to 240Hz but I'm not sure if going any higher would make a difference. Some say yes, some say no.

There is not much options if strobing is your main priority.
