Games feel and look choppy

Post by deagleicious » 25 Oct 2021, 11:58

Hello there!

For a while now my games look and feel slightly choppy, it’s hard to describe but it’s kind of the same feeling of going back from 144hz to 60hz. It just feels wrong.

Usually I’m only playing CSGO, so I figured it’s just some sort of spaghetti code issue with that game and it’s been like that for years now, however a friend wanted to play Diablo 2R with me and I noticed how unsmooth it feels.

Using VSync and lower FPS Cap doesn’t seem to help, and ever since I noticed it in D2 im noticing it everywhere. Even on the desktop it feels weird.

I’ve tried going down from 240 to 144hz and it just made thing even worse. 144hz legitimately feels like below 60hz now, wich is mega weird.

Anyway, I’m using a Zowie XL2546 (the first version) with a 1080ti, 3700x. As far as I’m aware My System should be capable of providing enough power to hold stable frametimes.

I’ve tried the riot_low_latency and melody profiles, with great success regarding input lag, but no change in the smoothness. The melody profile made csgo feel amazingly responsive, however it was looking like playing 30 FPS, while net_graph showed stable ~180.

Now as I said, my 240hz now feels worse than 144, 144 feels worse than 60, and 60 feels like a PowerPoint presentation.

Anyone ever had this issue? I’m really not sure where to really look for any potential issues. GPU seems fine, Ram seems fine. Maybe it’s me growing sensitive towards something like that?

I’ve tried using my 144hz Asus monitor, 144 hz still feels quite a bit worse than it should(tried both display port and dvi)

I just really want to get back the feeling and smoothness of 240hz I had when I got it for the first time. So I’d be thankful for any pointer and/or suggestions!

Have a nice day.

Only in csgo?

Try and lock the core clock in msi afterburner. Open oc scanner and then u see dots now u want to press the highest one then press L to lock it. So it wont downclock if its locked u will see a yellow line that means its locked.

Pretty much any game including desktop. I’ll try anyway, thank you!

Hey, so I tried it, didn’t seem to change anything at all.

I’ve reinstalled windows and game felt amazing on day one, but it went back to being garbo pretty quick. Feels like I’m dropping frames a lot? Variance according to the net graph is the same capped at 300 FPS and at 999. it gets lower when capped at 200, but it feels like a Diashow then lmao.

A friend convinced me to finally play valorant with him and that game feels ridiculously smooth competed to cs, like I’m not kidding it’s a difference like the surface of a burnt toast compared to warm butter.

At this point I’m just suspect of cs being spaghetti, but how do people with sometimes far worse hardware get a smoother experience?

Regarding in Game settings I’ve pretty much tested anything exhaustively, guess I’ll have to try going full HD from 4:3 stretched, as this is the only difference between valo and cs I can think of at this point. However I do remember playing 4:3 stretched on my old pc and having a silky smooth game too.

Either some major oversight by me or just plain sorcery…
