Upgrade from AW2521HF to AW2521H - is it worth it?

Post by CorvusCorax » 09 Dec 2021, 04:42

Hi,

few months ago I bought Dell Alienware AW2521HF (240Hz IPS panel) and I had some serious problem with headache and eye strain from using it. Now I'm still using this model but with very low Brightness/Contrast + Warm colors settings. Sadly I'm still struggle with above symptomes but it's not as painful as few months ago. You can ask why I don't change monitor to other brand. I tried (Acer, MSI, HP) but all models I tested had some flaws when it comes to image quality. For example Acer Predator had blur image in 240Hz when I play Dirt Rally 2.0, MSI had some problems with ghosting in 2D games, HP with coil whine etc. The AW2521HF also has some problems (flicker screen in 60Hz mode, some image retention), but the overall image quality is great. So, it's only the comfort issue.

I have a occasion now to buy new AW2521H (360Hz IPS panel) for 475$. I know it's very similar design, but maybe there is some small chance that this new model will be better for my head and eyes? Can 360Hz help with my problems? I read somewhere that it is possible to switch to 10 bit in lower refresh settings. What do you think guys, is it worth to upgrade?

I would stay away from the 360hz Alienware. I have one and it’s sitting in the corner, it feels terrible and is a blurry mess.

Seriously? There's many good reviews of this model in the Internet.

For example:

Thanks for answer

All monitors will have some flaws, so keep this on mind when searching for new perfect one.

AWHF should be a good monitor. Upgrading to any other wouldn't be a massive difference.
I have one too, brand new, unopened box. Trying to sell it for few months now but noone seems to want it.

It’s definitely not an upgrade. I tested the AW2521HF and am now testing the AW2521H and can’t say it feels any different really. Granted, I play Apex where FPS is capped at 300 so perhaps it’s not the best testing grounds. That said, I still have experienced nothing about the AW2521H that makes it a worthy purchase over the cheaper 240hz version.
