New monitor

Hi Blur Busters, I really wanted to upgrade my monitor after seeing the difference in quality between 60Hz and 75Hz, it was astounding. I would absolutely love to a VA panel, because I value contrast over anything else; color quality has to be in the ball park and I wont mind. I did some research and found the Foris FG2421, and it hits basically everything I want on it. This panel is a dream come true.

HOWEVER, I have read all over the internet that when you purchase this panel, since its basically cast off satellite imagery panels that didnt make the grade, you are playing monitor lottery, and you might end up with one that has some pretty crosshatching or what have you.

My question to Blur Busters all around, is it worth the risk? I was considering just getting a cheaper VA panel, as the main reason I want this one is for the 5000:1 Contrast Ratio. The 240Hz is nice, but I dont have a computer that can run current gen MMO's at an FPS that high (Elder Scrolls Online, FInal Fantasy XIV:ARR, Guild Wars 2). So, should I not risk it and go with someone like BenQ, or is it worth the risk to get all those extra bells and whistles?

I also considered this monitor. And, like you, I decided against it. It seems the quality of the monitor is way to low for the kind of price they're selling it (and some units are worse than others.) The "gaming hardware" business is getting out of hand; it seems that vendors just slap a "gaming" sticker on some product just so they can justify a high price.

The only way I would buy such a thing is if I could try it before I buy it. These days, where you can only really buy stuff online, that's not an easy thing to do anymore. If you can find a real shop that has it, then you should try it there and see if it's good enough for you.

Although opinions vary, I disagree. It's my favourite strobed monitor for overall picture quality, for solo 120fps@120Hz gaming. If one doesn't have own 6 monitors already, I would pony up the ~$600 for the EIZO FG2421.

Inconsistency certainly seems to be the case, so you want to be able to exchange the monitor, if needed.

A big consideration for testing in-house, is that I've found most VA panels (including 60Hz) to be very temperature sensitive, so you want to warm it up, so that the FG2421 has excellent strobe quality. VA panels have a lot of ghosting when the panel is cold.

yes and no...this might just be the only VA+lightboost monitor that will exist since manufacturers are delaying the good stuff for [free/g-sync], and with no competition comes bad quality and overpricing, or atleast until the next lightboost+[free/g-sync]+[VA/IPS] monitors come out but that will be another year if you want to wait for ones that aren't just the combined technology with the labels slapped on..so if you are in the 1% (forbidden zone) of the population that actually want a good desktop and gaming monitor in one then your screwed...

As I can't check without buying/ordering, I wonder how compare image/picture quality and colours of monitors: EIZO FG2421 and Asus Swift PG287Q to crt's: LG 995ft plus and Iiyama HM903DTA Vision Master Pro 454. If there will be someone to compare any of them to other I'm curious to read.
I can only say that LG 995ft plus is perfect for games and text, reading, working, great clarity and is super user/eyes friendly, and HM903DTA Vision Master Pro 454 is perfect for movies and probably good when working with graphics, much better and more vivid colours and much better brightness but much less eyes friendly vs LG 995ft. Iiyama clarity and sharpness is worse too. But LG 995ft can be only used when lifting up a great deal of gamma (for example in powerstrip).

[EDITED] The LG 995FT+ nor Iiyama HM903DTA Vision Master Pro 454 are both CRTs which will generally have much better color than all TN panels.

Motion clarity should be very similar to CRT, thanks to motion blur reducing strobe backlights can reduce motion blur by an order of magnitude (see PHOTOS: 60Hz versus 120Hz versus LightBoost).

However, color quality will almost certainly be better than the TN panels.

Did you look into info about this monitors? ;) They are crts so they are better in motion than lightboost etc. ;)
I just wanted someone who ever seen them (or similiar) to compare about theirs other display/image qualities with current gaming monitors like EIZO FG2421 and Asus Swift PG287Q? (that why I posted here - offtopic category).

Fixed my error. I was looking at their respective high end LCDs.
