Xbox Series X - 1440p 120hz would be optimal for FPS games, correct?

All newer XBOX consoles supports 120Hz+ & FreeSync. Getting help with getting "Better Than 60Hz" on the XBOX ONE, XBOX Series S, and XBOX Series X, as well as the PlayStation 5.

Xbox Series X - 1440p 120hz would be optimal for FPS games, correct?

I have an XB Series X. I play FPS games at 120fps. It seems most games output to 1440p. Unlike a PC, you cannot lower the resolutions. So am I correct in thinking that a 1080p gives no advantages, like it would on PC with higher and more stable frames?

Since games like Halo Infinite and Fortnite are outputting 120fps at 1440p, no matter your monitors native resolution, am I better off just getting a 1440p monitor?

Also, anyone have any recommendations for a 1440p monitor with low input lag at 120hz? Seems most the input lag numbers are at 240hz or whatever the native frames are (usually 165+). I see that usually the higher refresh monitors (240+) usually have pretty bad 60hz performance. So I would assume the best monitors for 1440p/120hz would be 144hz models.

I also read on here that because Xbox forces Vsync, you actually get lower input lag when using VRR on the Xbox.

I am stuck between getting these monitors right now:

MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD
BenQ Mobiuz EX2780Q
BenQ Mobiuz EX2710Q
Gigabyte M27Q

Tons of games use some sort of reconstruction or vary too much to really target one resolution. UI elements also tend to draw independently of the rendering resolution.

4K would be optimal, but 1440p is perfectly adequate in the current status quo.

When it comes to consoles, everything is fixed, so the resolution(s) accessible to you, is pre-determined. Halo Infinite offers 120fps (which is debatable) at 1440p, but most games don't offer anything in that range. In most cases, 120fps comes at the sacrifice of 1080p resolution, but then, most games don't even have a 120fps mode. So I personally wouldn't base my monitor purchase on it.

If you want to experience everything the Series X has to offer, then I'd recommend going for a TV, rather than a monitor. Something like the LG C2, SAMSUNG QN90B or the Sony XR-42A90K are good places to start.
