Does having 120hz enabled with 30 FPS games on xbox cause input lag compared to running 60hz?

All newer XBOX consoles supports 120Hz+ & FreeSync. Getting help with getting "Better Than 60Hz" on the XBOX ONE, XBOX Series S, and XBOX Series X, as well as the PlayStation 5.

Does having 120hz enabled with 30 FPS games on xbox cause input lag compared to running 60hz?

So there's this website for my monitor ( https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/asus/tuf-vg27aq ) that shows the monitors input lag when playing a 60hz refresh rate (Xbox.) But I think they did the tests before Xbox updated the video settings that allowed for 120hz, (yes I know its not a true 120 fps, it still plays at 60hps no matter what.)
But no you can enable the Xbox to 120hz. However for games like PUBG that play at 30fps or less, is it better to play at 120hz or 60hz, it terms of input lag?

Use 120Hz for lower lag 60fps or 30fps.
Sometimes using 60Hz has more lag (they are correct), but you can eliminate that by using 120Hz mode on XBox One even for 60fps and 30fps games.

30fps generally has less input lag at 120Hz than at 60Hz on the same screen.

The 30fps frame is refreshed ("painted") onto the screen in only 1/120sec, allowing you to see the frame slightly earlier.

Low frame rates have lower input lag at higher Hz. Even 240Hz still reduces 30fps latency. That's because the 30fps frames are refreshed faster in 1/240sec, allowing you to see the whole frame sooner.

It usually takes a full refresh cycle for a monitor to "paint" a new refresh cycle onto the screen, see high speed videos of a screen refreshing.

Very interesting! Are there negatives to running fps < refresh?

Depends.

But if your framepacing is good fps < refresh:
- Looks visually similar to lower refresh rate
- Higher refresh rate lower latency than the lower refresh rate

In other words, 60fps at 240Hz looks visually similar to 60fps at 60fps, but 240Hz is much less laggy than 60Hz.

Assumptions:
- You are running a variable refresh rate display
- Or if fixed-Hz, you are running a divisor of fixed-Hz frame rate (e.g. half, third, quarter Hz)
