Help finding monitor for Xbox Series X that does 1080p @ 120hz with low input lag

All newer XBOX consoles supports 120Hz+ & FreeSync. Getting help with getting "Better Than 60Hz" on the XBOX ONE, XBOX Series S, and XBOX Series X, as well as the PlayStation 5.

Help finding monitor for Xbox Series X that does 1080p @ 120hz with low input lag

Post by AM_acc1q » 15 Apr 2021, 18:28

I'm having a lot of trouble finding a monitor that supports the Xbox Series X while meeting my specs.
  • 24" - 24.5" 1080p
  • HDMI for Xbox Series X and DisplayPort for PC
  • 120Hz w/ FreeSync for the Xbox and at least 144Hz over DisplayPort
  • IPS or TN
Every time I find a monitor that looks decent, there's always a "catch". For example the VG259QM (IPS) looks great on paper, but ASUS says that it's not compatible with the Series X, despite the very similar VG258QM (TN) being compatible. Not to mention huge input lag on the RTINGS tested 60Hz compared to native.

Another close contender was the Acer Nitro XF243Y Pbmiiprx, but looking at the VESA timing table it might not be compatible.

I currently have an older VG248QE so I would prefer my new monitor to not only support 120Hz, but also have a comparable or better response time/input lag.

Thanks!

I own the Viewsonic XG2402 and it meets your requirements. Playing on Xbox One X (not series) at 1080p + 120hz over HDMI. Displayport to PC at 1080p + 144hz.

My Viewsonic OSD (On Screen Display) verifies 120 Hz when playing Xbox/HDMI by showing the following under "Information":
H. Frequency: 134.9KHz
V. Frequency: 119.9Hz
Pixel Clock: 296.8MHz

Xbox set to 60 Hz will show Pixel Clock: 148.4MHz

The XG2402 is #3 on the list for best Response Time on RTINGS: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tests/mo ... ponse-time

I own Benq models, too..prefer my Viewsonic. Let me know if you have questions.

edit: fyi Viewsonic will be releasing an IPS monitor with top specs, XG2431.

Interesting, thank you for the reply! I have to say that IPS looks very attractive; I've only had TN panels but some of these IPS monitors seem to have very close response times.

Any idea about the release date of the XG2431?
I also just read about the new Dell S2522HG and older Alienware AW2521HF. I can't help but feel like I've looked at the Alienware before and there was some reason why I didn't consider it.
