Should I be worried about DSC for esports?

High Hz on OLED produce excellent strobeless motion blur reduction with fast GtG pixel response. It is easier to tell apart 60Hz vs 120Hz vs 240Hz on OLED than LCD, and more visible to mainstream. Includes WOLED and QD-OLED displays.

Should I be worried about DSC for esports?

Post by kaivorth » 16 Jan 2024, 08:40

I just ordered an Alienware AW2725DF, 1440p 360hz monitor for primarily esports. I'm reading up on DSC, and realizing DP 1.4 will require it to support the bandwidth.

Does anybody know how much latency this will add to the monitor? Kinda mad this doesn't support DP2.1 It supports HDMI 2.1, but even that isn't true full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on this particular monitor I think because it only supports HDMI up to 144hz?

I also have this exact worry. How are you finding the monitor with display port 1.4 with DSC?

DisplayPort 1.4 actually has a provision to optionally support DSC

Not all DisplayPort 1.4 ports supports DSC (it's not mandatory), but it is supported by the DisplayPort spec.

Any updates on this? Have you tested the monitor at all? How are you enjoying it?

Going to ask my question in this thread instead of making a new thread:

Does anyone know if DSC's alt-tabbing issue (long black screen while alt-tabbing) affects games running in borderless fullscreen mode, or only the old FSE mode?

First time inquiring anything about this topic
