G8 OLED 175 Stuttering

High Hz on OLED produce excellent strobeless motion blur reduction with fast GtG pixel response. It is easier to tell apart 60Hz vs 120Hz vs 240Hz on OLED than LCD, and more visible to mainstream. Includes WOLED and QD-OLED displays.

G8 OLED 175 Stuttering

Post by Stojo » 22 Jan 2024, 04:34

Hello,

first, sorry for my bad english.
I am from Serbia and live in Germany.

Ich have a strange problem.
In the past i used a LG C2 42" as my gaming monitor.
It runs with 120hz and Gsync.
Before i bought the C2, i had a 240hz wqhd monitor.
Never had any problems with them before.

With time of using the C2 i started feeling, that it was just too big for me.
Singleplayer Games, where you can lean back with your chair, were fine, but fast fps games with mouse and keyboard didn´t work well. I was just sitting too close the the LG.
I tried the smaller picture with custom resolution 3840 x 1600 ultrawide, but didnt like the asthetics with the black bars.

So i decided to buy Samsung G8 OLED Ultrawide monitor with 3440 x 1440 resolution.

First i noticed, that i like the poppy colours of the G8.
I updated it manually with an USB Stick to the latest firmware.
After setting up the picture, i started a few games.

And it started to become strange...

Almost all games had micro-stuttering and Sync issues.
It felt like Gsync wasnt working.

Some games like Rocket League were constantly lagging and stuttering.
Games like EA FC 24 are unplayable.
There is tearing all the way and even the game engine was producing glitches and buggs.
It felt like i was playing with 20 FPS. Tearing around the players and high input lag.

So i tried everything, VRR on/off.
Monitor reset.
Picture reset.
Vsync on/off.
Gsync on and off. Capping Framerate on and off.
Capping Framerate in Rivatuner @ 170, 171, 172, 173 etc.
Reinstall drivers. Fresh Windows install. Nothing helped.
I even tried to put the G8 @120hz.Compared to the native LG C2 120hz, the G8 felt juddery.

So i put my C2 back on my PC and it worked with no problems.
I called a friend today and he came with his LG OLED 240 hz monitor for testing.
I plugged it an and everything was butter-smooth.

So i plugged the G8 back in my pc and the Sync issues were back.

I really want to love the G8, because i like the size and the poppy QD-Display.
But how can this be?

Can a monitor produce these Sync issues itself?
I always thought that kind of Sync issues has to be Software relevated.

Thank you so much.

My System:

Win 11
Intel 13600K
RTX 4080
32 GB DDR 5 RAM

PS.

With my C2 i have Gsync turned on for fullscreen and borderless.
Vsync is ON.
So my frames are locked/capped @120 FPS.

I dont like turning Vsync off for no cap.
Because the frames over 120 FPS and under 40 FPS feel choppy for me.
