You are not in my body, I am myopic and astigmatic ( with glasses ofc ) and even without being so, if you put on something that reduces the sharpness, your eyes strain in some way, it's not pleasant and you see "less well" , I'm sensitive to it, the more matte the screen, the more I have headache and eyestrain.

Interesting.r0ach wrote: ↑02 Feb 2024, 09:46Like I alluded to in another post, 27G1S is subjectively close to CRT-like speed in actual use where you don't actually feel like there's any type of blur holding you back from doing anything (like on a slower BOE or LG panel). But it seems any type of panel reaching that speed that's NOT a TN will be using some form of ultra-thin film panel technology that mangles your eyes after using it more than an hour straight because that's how the 27G1S is for me. Unless it's somehow only the fault of the backlighting, but I think it's a combination of both.
Absolutely agree with that !...r0ach wrote: ↑02 Feb 2024, 09:46Unless someone can convince these imbeciles running the monitor companies to switch back to STANDARD GAMUT RGB BACKLIGHTING + NORMAL, thicker, a-SI instead of LTPS-like, thin films, probably all these new monitors are going to be totally unusable. I haven't used the G7 so I don't know if it has the same problem as the 27G1S, but I don't see (any? many?) complaints online about eye strain looking at it, so that might be as fast as non-TN panels get without killing you.
It does use DSC though which is probably going to cause unresponsive mouse movement unless you can force it off by forcing 8bit color.
except that i've had the Odyssey G7 few month ago and resend this screen because of headache, i've don't tolerate red colors on this screen and the black levels also did something weird to me, like weird black crushed effect even with the best parameters.

Re: Can we freaking have a no BOE panel ?! ( 1440p 240hz~ )
There's supposed to be a 480hz Innolux IPS soon that was announced a long time ago (unless it was canceled). But you can already find what will be probably the same or very similar panel in the Asus XG27AQMR which I've used. It had some slight eye stinging caused by the screen but not headache effect. I think lowering color depth to 8 bit to turn off dithering decreased it.
This panel will probably be usable by some people, but it's still higher eye strain than a normal screen and people on this forum have posted that they couldn't use it. The 27G1S is worse in this department, though. It seems okay at first but then after about an hour or so it starts hitting you very hard in your entire head while the XG27AQMR seemed like it just had some slight eye stinging effect.

You will hardly laugh and cry at the same time because...i've already have the XG27AQMR and i've don't like it ( look at the list of monitors that I have had, it is displayed below each of my comments ), mostly because i've found that for a 300hz, the motion blur especially on Overwatch and Apex Legends was hugely dissapointing, didn't do better compared to my old Acer XV272UX and the important thing...during ALT-TAB i've had a bug that the screen sometimes rarely reset the contrast/brightness settings and sometimes the ELMB turns OFF when i do ALT-TAB.
For the love of god i hope they give us one day a product that is finished xD

Re: Can we freaking have a no BOE panel ?! ( 1440p 240hz~ )
Subjectively, the 27G1S feels faster to me. Probably should as its synthetic tests say it’s equal to something like a 360hz TN panel. But even with overdrive turned off the XG27AQMR feels faster than the 240hz BOE panel, so I don’t really see how you can complain much about its speed. It’s an IPS derivative so it’s just not going to be TN speed.Sirius wrote: ↑02 Feb 2024, 13:46You will hardly laugh and cry at the same time because...i've already have the XG27AQMR and i've don't like it ( look at the list of monitors that I have had, it is displayed below each of my comments ), mostly because i've found that for a 300hz, the motion blur especially on Overwatch and Apex Legends was hugely dissapointing, didn't do better compared to my old Acer XV272UX
It’s just some outlier miracle that the 27G1S is. It would be perfect if not for its huge eye strain. I’ve considered trying to replace it’s backlight with the backlight of a Samsung PLS panel, but not sure if replacing a backlight is possible from a donor monitor without destroying the things in the process in hopes of making it eye strain usable.

I've never complained about his "speed" but about the perceive motion blur.r0ach wrote: ↑02 Feb 2024, 14:40Subjectively, the 27G1S feels faster to me. Probably have a bad refresh compliance.
Tbh i didn't know what to try, i think i will keep my OLD Acer but at the same time i don't want to use it anymore.

r0ach, when posts are not in Display Comfort, please ask
"Why not BOE? Is it because you're concerned about eyestrain?"
Rather than assuming eyestrain.
The original poster didn't inquire about eyestrain, it is presumed that the poster was against BOE for a different reason, such as refresh rate behaviors, etc.
Any armchair eyestrain Kings unnecessary camping on the subject may be downgraded to a Moderator-Approve queue, for forum post assumptions made outside the Display Comfort forum. Verify-and-help, not assume-and-help, please.

He specifically said that his xv272u 270hz with AU panel causes “headaches.” He believes this will somehow be fixed by finding a glossy panel, which I said I doubt it and that the current BOE 240hz is the only one I’ve found that’s bearable to look at so far for new panels.Chief Blur Buster wrote: ↑02 Feb 2024, 20:37r0ach, when posts are not in Display Comfort, please ask

I’m pretty picky when it comes to electronics, but as you can see from his signature, he’s already used like 40 different monitors so the whole discussion is kind of a lost cause. Every monitor has some type of pros and cons but he doesn’t want to make any compromises on any type of drawbacks + wants glossy on top of that aka a virtually impossible task (no, he doesn’t like OLED either).

TFTcentral has the roadmaps for 2024, I didn't see anything interesting.Sirius wrote: ↑02 Feb 2024, 13:22The thing is :kyube wrote: ↑02 Feb 2024, 08:47Apart from the PG27AQN, 27G1S and X 27, I don't think you're gonna get a wildly different experience in the LCD 1440p240hz sphere for quite a while.
Almost all monitors in that category use the same panels (as you've probably noticed with the amount of them you've tested) and they're unbearably slow + have some lingering eyestrain concern reported by a noticable amount of people here.
If you can tolerate the OLED flicker, perhaps something like the 1440p360hz or 1440p240hz OLED's might be good.
Just a heads-up, at least on the LG WOLED derivatives, the flicker looks like this which I pressume (I'm not sure if this is how it's read) is a dip from 100% brightness to 50% brightness every refresh cycle (4.17ms)
- PG27AQN = Overpriced, i literally can't
- X 27 = I've already tested and the TN at 1440p resolution mixed to his ultra matte coating, is a no go for me, plus, motion performance and how i perceive motion blur on this screen was not that good in front of my eyes.
And for the 27G1S, i didn't test this one ( maybe it's good, idk ) but yeah that's what annoys me, they almost all have the same panel...and that's what I find illogical, why the competition between Innolux, AUO and the others no longer exists in this range of screens , why are the old 1440p 240hz no longer produced? I absolutely don't understand.
In fact, I don't know if I'm sensitive to OLED flicker but know that for me, strobing (DyAc / ELMB etc) are not compatible with me and I get a hot head 10 minutes later and a headache, anyway when there are high speed white flashes on my LG OLED 60hz TV like for exemple a song from Venjent or something (one of the worst LG OLED > LG 48A1) well the flash is so bright and fast at the same time (because the LG that I have is a WOLED and therefore with a white subpixel) well so I tolerate it moderately.
Plus I've seen a LOT of people on Reddit and even the Fresh Review guy literally sending back the Alienware QD-OLED because it gives headaches and eyestrain, me being sensitive, it's scary...so I literally have no hope anymore.
Do we know when there will be the next 1440p IPS at high refresh rate ? please tell me yes
