240hz or 144hz with BFI

Post by yungstudent » 14 May 2023, 21:58

Hi,

Ignoring the price difference..

I am stuck in between choosing the Samsung Neo G8 (240hz VA) and the Gigabyte M32U (144hz IPS + BFI).

The G8 is 240hz, but doesnt have any BFI. The M32U is 144hz but does have BFI. The M32U is better at motion blur handling as it is an IPS panel.

Ignoring price, which one should I choose?

Personally, i'd definitely choose 144 Hz + BFI because the flicker would be unnoticeable at this refresh rate.

The motion itself would be much clearer, because while sample-and-hold displays become less and less blurry with higher refresh rates, they can't compete with the motion clarity induced by flicker.

Also, it takes less processing power for a higher frame rate.

In my opinion, the only bummer in this configuration is the IPS panel itself, which produces a dull contrast due do its very nature.
