LG 24GM77 monitor, a 144Hz monitor with a “lightboost” clone

Ask about motion blur reduction in gaming monitors. Includes ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur), NVIDIA LightBoost, ASUS ELMB, BenQ/Zowie DyAc, Turbo240, ToastyX Strobelight, etc.

LG 24GM77 monitor, a 144Hz monitor with a “lightboost” clone

This recognizes the popularity of motion-blur-eliminating strobe backlights in other 120Hz+ gaming monitors (“LightBoost”, “ULMB”, “Turbo240″ and “BENQ Blur Reduction”). Blur Busters has received confirmation that Motion 240 is a strobe backlight.

LG is planning to demo the 24GM77 at IFA 2014 in Germany in early September. It is capable of 144Hz. The 24GM77 (144Hz 1080p) is mentioned in the same press release announcing their 34″ UltraWide 34UC97 monitor (60Hz 3440×1440 21:9)

another "240" in the name? hope it doesn't have an extra frame of input lag like the fg2421 :D

and I dont see why they're naming it 240... hopefully they don't mean that the strobe length is 1/240 seconds.......

Since 120Hz strobing is lower persistence than 144Hz without strobing - manufacturers have tended to come up with "240" marketing.

In reality, persistence is likely in the neighbourhood of 1ms or thereabouts (strobe flash length) which is equivalent to a measured motion clarity ratio of 1000 rather than 240, going by (1/persistence) estimation of motion clarity, as reliably shown by strobe backlights in general.

Is there any particular reason why strobe backlight is limited to 120 Hz? Why not 144 Hz strobe as well?

Too bad the LG is just 1080p.

I'm guessing it is like the other monitors where the timings are too tight to be able to do it at 144hz.
You have to wait for the every pixel to transition to the new frame before you strobe. The time between the top left pixel transitioning and the bottom right may not allow enough time to strobe.

LG had only one 120Hz before (LG W2363D) and with it's own feature THRU Mode (almost zero input lag) that tech worked perfect - best at that time. Dunno why Chief didn't mention LG's DAS (Dynamic Action Sync):
"Gamers will especially appreciate LG's 24GM77 new Gaming Monitor which is specifically designed to handle the fast-paced action of the latest first person shooters (FPS). A refresh rate of 144 Hz ensures that even the most intense action appears smooth and flicker-free, while LG's Dynamic Action Sync (DAS) Mode drastically cuts input lag, enabling the player to respond faster to what's happening on the screen. Other notable features include Black Stabilizer for consistent blacks across different scenes and Game Mode, which offers three optimized settings that can be applied quickly by pressing a hotkey on the monitor, with the option to create customized presets. And Motion 240, developed exclusively for the Gaming Monitor, helps minimize motion blur with a fast response time of less than 1 ms."

I have no idea what "dynamic action sync" is. imo input lag shouldn't need to be "cut". computer monitors should be designed with minimal input lag in mind...

They said "cut" meaning input lag will be minimized as possible. As you can see even vendors who specializes only in competitive gaming gear can make and sell products (mouses) with twice more input lag than others... http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1279
There are already several examples of 120Hz monitors with input lag.

For me what is interesting - is this monitor native 8bit?
And what other 120+ tn monitors are native 8bit without dithering/shimmering (beside rog swift)?
As it is without gsync probably price will be appropriately lower.
