AOC's MBR

Ask about motion blur reduction in gaming monitors. Includes ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur), NVIDIA LightBoost, ASUS ELMB, BenQ/Zowie DyAc, Turbo240, ToastyX Strobelight, etc.

AOC's MBR

Post by Jsunne » 23 Dec 2023, 01:37

I currently have an AOC C27G2Z 27".

I've heard that va panels have bad response times and smearing, is that the case for this monitor?

Also I can't find any comparisons of the mbr (motion blur reduction) feature with others such as ulmb, elmb or dyac. Is this implementation much worse?

With the answers to the previous questions, is it worth upgrading to a IPS backlight strobing panel such as viewsonic xg2431 or asus tuf vg259qm? If so which of those 2 is better?

Thanks!

While there's little info on this model, AOC's MBR has not generally been as good as Blur Busters Approved (though AOC is welcome to apply to us for strobe tuning services!).

RTINGS pursuit photographs of MBR on other AOC models such as AOC CQ27G2, shows significant strobe crosstalk compared to other models with better strobe tuning.

So far, studying multiple models to see the strobe quality history of a specific brand is your best stand-in for missing images of a specific monitor.

Also consider if you're wanting to use strobing in esports or strobing for retro uses. Some models won't let you strobe at retro-compatible frequencies, while others models will let you. One model may only let you strobe at 100-144Hz (e.g. the specific AOC linked), and another model let you strobe at 60-240Hz (e.g. XG2431).

There are only 2 good monitors with strobing that exist.

XG2431 and Zowie DYAC+

The XG2431 is far better because not only is i just as fast as a TN from BenQ while using an IPS but it has much better cross talk

The problem with the Viewsonic is the modes you will want to use like Extreme PureXP mode is extremely dim 80 nits.

According to Chief this mode is the equivalent of a 1200HZ Monitor without strobing.
There is an even better mode Pure XP Ultra which is like 27 nits. This works like a 2400HZ Monitor effectively and is very clear then there is the other mode where you can customize how low you want it and you can go so low that it looks identical to CRT if not better
But you only get 6 nits so you truly are playing in the dark at that point you can't see anything worth while but if you do manage to find content to test it for scientific purposes like UFO test or Frog Test and you look really closely in a pure dark room you will see how magnificent it looks

It's probably the equivalent of a 7000 HZ OLED monitor.

The BenQ on the other hand has premium mode DYAC+ which is supposed to be just as good as a 1200HZ monitor and has 250 nits.
Problem with the BenQ is it uses an UGLY TN panel and won't flicker below 100hz so 60hz content is out of the question.
