Benq 165hz csgo Magical settings

Post by uncle_chop » 19 Aug 2016, 23:47

ok so alot of people seem to strugle setting up their benq monitor for csgo.

I have researched over a year across all forums and here is my findings and settings for best setup. in my opinion this trick runs the monitor above 144hz in terms on responsiveness, somthing along the lines of 165hz.

so i have an amd card and i use custom resolution utility with clock patcher.
i run full resolution 1920 x 1080 @ 125hz
vertical total of 1498
single strobe on and br on.
i used icc profile l2420z 120hz
my strobe duty is 007
strobe phase 000
my monitor is still very bright even though my strobe duty is very low.
one thing you must keep in mind, is that on csgo, you must have raw input off with all video settings set to low to get best responsiveness. I hope i have helped some people out there. let me know what you think. i absolutely love these settings. you must have everything the same or else you wont get results

If you set the strobe phase to 041 instead of 000, for 125hz with VT tweak, your input lag will be 8 ms lower.

strobe phase 000 has 1 frame extra input lag than a "high" strobe phase before the max limit.
If you're playing competitive FPS, it's important to get the lowest input lag.

Strobe phase =047=max limit of 125hz+VT tweak.
Strobe phase=048=backlight shut off.
So desired strobe duty+strobe phase=backlight cutoff point
(strobe phase 041+strobe phase 007=048, or strobe phase 042+strobe duty 006, etc).

What monitor? XL2420Z?
in my opinion this trick runs the monitor above 144hz in terms on responsiveness, somthing along the lines of 165hz.
So you wanna say 125Hz with BBR is almost equal to 165Hz?

Unfortunately, it is not as simple as that. It all depends on (1) which pixel line you are looking at (top vs. bottom), (2) how much settling time you consider enough for a pixel to show the new image when the strobe comes, and (3) whether you play with VSYNC ON. I think most of the confusion comes from thinking that the strobes are somehow bound to the frames in which they appear time-wise, which is not the case. While strobe N might show frame N for one pixel line, the same strobe might show frame N-1 for another pixel line. For the top part of the screen, for example, max pulse phase will actually reduce lag, at the expense of increased input lag at the bottom part. This is because strobe N-1 at max phase comes a bit earlier than strobe N at min phase, but strobe N-1 at max phase comes still late enough for "finding" top screen pixels in a well settled state already, whereas it comes too early for bottom screen pixels which have to "wait" for the next pulse to show the new state. So if the important action happens rather at the top than at the bottom of the screen, setting the strobe phase to max might actually be of advantage as far as input lag goes. However, min strobe phase seems to make best use of the VSYNC gap in terms of crosstalk and average input lag.

Good point, Strobemaster!

I feel the high strobe phase is very important for CS:Go and other FPS games, because the HUD display (and the ground) is usually at the bottom of the screen, while those pesky snipers are usually at the top ! Of course you're usually aiming your crosshair at the middle of the screen when shooting them anyway...

For games that don't really have a "hud" and that use the full screen for action (like MOBAS), then strobe phase 000 will definitely give the best image quality (if using a VT tweak of course!).

If not using a VT tweak, there's a lot of crosstalk, except at 60hz, so crosstalk at the top and bottom has to be balanced out (e.g. Strobe Phase 010), but strobe duty also changes crosstalk too. (I can't play without VT tweaks).

so ive tried the strobe phase of 041 but my display goes black and tried to restore itself everynow n then, so ive dropped it to 020 and it seems to be stable.
