Lag/blur when looking around - FPS games - PG279Q

Ask about motion blur reduction in gaming monitors. Includes ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur), NVIDIA LightBoost, ASUS ELMB, BenQ/Zowie DyAc, Turbo240, ToastyX Strobelight, etc.

Lag/blur when looking around - FPS games - PG279Q

Post by smackdonald » 28 Feb 2018, 09:16

Im having a hard trouble finding out if this is "normal" or not.
It really feels like its not.

When i "shake my head" or look quickly around in any fps game, i experience lag.
No matter the fps. It could be set to 60 or 144hz, on any graphic setting; low or ultra.
I experience the same either way.

I've attached a picture taken with my phone, taking several pictures per second in order to caputre what i am seeing.

I've tried ULMB, tried different refresh rates, different games, different settings in games (PUBG and Destiny 2), different drivers, G-sync disabled/enabled.

I jsut dont know if this is not the screen for me or what i should expect.
I expect the image to be smooth and clear as I am looking around. Not this ghosty blur..

What is it that i am experiencing?
How do i fix it?

PLEASE advice.

Thanks!

Check the OD or Overdrive setting, this controls how fast the pixels switch, the middle setting tends to be the best

Could it be that my panel is faulty?

Video is a good idea -- that will help us determine what it may be caused by.
-- If it's normal (it may be)
-- If it's a monitor defect
-- If it's something else

Also, both IPS and VA will ghost much more than TN.
Your eyes may just simply prefer TN even if everyone else say IPS/VA is better.

Also, try ULMB with the triple lock needed for blurfree+stutterfree motion (stroberate = refreshrate = framerate). You will likely need to use possibly VSYNC ON). A lower framerate for easier triple lock. Try 100fps ULMB with temporarily VSYNC ON with one of your full-framerate games, and see what happens. Yes, VSYNC ON adds lag, but it will help diagnose if going simultaneously blurfree+stutterfree fixes the effect -- or not.
