Higher Resolutions = More Motion Blur?

Hey everyone! I just bought my brand new Acer Predator xb271hu IPS monitor! I got it on sale for only $500, free shipping! I replaced my Asus vg248qe, and I gotta say this monitor is beautiful right out of the box. Zero issues with it build quality-wise! However, this is my first monitor at a resolution higher than 1920x1080.

Playing certain games, I noticed significantly more motion blur. When using the UFO Ghost Test with the monitors side by side, I noticed no difference. Then, I realized something. My games will cross the monitors from side to side at different pixel speeds. When I play Grim Dawn for example, a fireball will fly across my screen in one second, from end to end, regardless of what monitor I use. So when I'm playing with my xb271hu at 2560 resolution and my vg248qe at 1920 resolution, the fireball is crossing 640 more pixels in that one second! When I cranked up the speed on the Ghost test to approximate this pixel speed, the motion blur was MUCH worse on the xb271hu!

Does this mean that, sadly, higher resolution = more motion blur inherently? The colors are so crisp and amazing on this monitor I really love it. Is there anything I can do to help this? The Gsync function is also amazing!

One thought I had for a solution was that this monitor is 27".... versus 24". So, if I move the monitor back further so that it takes up the same angle of my vision, it'll be the same distance of motion blur in the same area, right?

That's the IPS versus TN difference.
The VG248QE is 1ms GtG
The XB271HU is 4ms GtG.

Loosely speaking, you will have up to approximately ~50% more motion blur (since 4ms is about 50% of a 120Hz refresh cycle). GtG slowness is additive to motion blur and begins to really be noticeable when GtG is roughly half a refresh cycle long.

Remember, 1ms = 1 pixel of per 1000 pixels/second. This applies to all kinds of artifacts, whether generated by GtG and MPRT effects --
such as motion blur, crosstalk artifacts, framepacing inaccuracy turning into stutter amplitude, ghosting (in milliseconds), coronas (in milliseconds), etc.

Although there's a Vicious Cycle Effect, this does not apply here because you were testing the same pixels-per-second motion speed.

Although MPRT is more directly responsible for seen motion blur, GtG response produces additive effects (ghosting/blurring/etc) on top of this. See Frequently Asked Questions About Pixel Response.
