A few weeks later and I'm still loving this thing. Games that are locked to 60fps started getting on my nerves, though (looking at you, Halo: Reach). I'd go crazy for some kind of black frame insertion in those situations.

I saw a software-based black frame insertion solution somewhere on the boards. I don't know how good or effective it is; my monitor (pg279q) gets image retention while using it and the image quality noticeably degrades on top of it so I didn't bother checking it out for more than a couple minutes.Captain Hammer wrote: ↑30 Dec 2019, 16:27A few weeks later and I'm still loving this thing. In this thread the chief says that converting 120hz to 60hz using software BFI looks good on the XG270.

Hi Chief. Can you tell at least approximately how bright is this monitor( in nits) in strobing mode when set to Light ( i suppose that option has longest pulse width). Its brightness is rated at 400 nits, so is 250 nits attainable in brightest settings for strobed mode?Chief Blur Buster wrote: ↑27 Nov 2019, 20:30
A new Blur Busters Approved firmware is coming at ViewSonic that will add levels to the strobe backlight (Light, Normal, Extreme) as a pulse width adjustment. Though you can't adjust strobe phase, you will eventually be able to adjust pulse width in granular steps. I believe the new firmware is coming out early 2020. While you still lose a lot of brightness strobing. I'm able to get it pretty bright (about 2.5x to 4x brighter than PureXP+ first firmware) with the upcoming firmware I'm currently testing.

That hint got me far enough. It indeed looks quite good on the XG270: https://github.com/squeaksci/desktopbfi/releases.GammaLyrae wrote: ↑31 Dec 2019, 01:20I saw a software-based black frame insertion solution somewhere on the boards. At least it worked in Sonic Mania, which looked amazing. Had to edit the settings.ini to make it true borderless fullscreen though.

I just returned this monitor for a xn253q. I was having GSync issues with zero resolution in sight

Add your feedback to this thread: Dear ViewSonic: Please Add 60 Hz Single-Strobe for PureXP on XG270Captain Hammer wrote: ↑30 Dec 2019, 16:27A few weeks later and I'm still loving this thing. Are these new 27” 240hz ips panels true 8bit? If so they might the first 1080p ips 8bit panels correct?

Yes, the XG270 appears to be 8bit from my tests. I see all 8-bit color gamut (banding-free linear gradient) during high speed videos and short camera exposures, with no visible FRC.
Incidentially, this is also why its color bitdepth doesn't degrade with software BFI like it does on 6-bit TN panels.

quick question, does the xg270 come with the side shield too or that only for the 1440p 165hz one ?
