Black line interleaving

Ask about motion blur reduction in gaming monitors. Includes ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur), NVIDIA LightBoost, ASUS ELMB, BenQ/Zowie DyAc, Turbo240, ToastyX Strobelight, etc.

Black line interleaving

Post by Zerion » 02 Jul 2020, 06:35

I don't know if this is a new idea, but a quick google search didn't come up with anything, so I thought I'd make quick demo myself.

Demo
web (needs to run in sync with display, does not work in firefox for me)
windows x64 (double click window for fullscreen)

Seems to give the same blur reduction as black frame insertion, but without perceived increase in flickering. Looks better at higher refresh rates, but works reasonably even at 60 Hz.

Essentially, instead of blanking every second frame, it's blanking every second line, alternating even and odd lines between frames, producing output similar to analog interlaced video.

I guess it could subjective or just not work on all displays. I personally don't see any flickering with this and the brightness is the same.

It could also be the web version just doesn't work correctly, I added a native windows build to the post that should be more likely to work correctly.
