benq zowie xl2540 vs. benq zowie xl2735 for a CS:GO player

Ask about motion blur reduction in gaming monitors. Includes ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur), NVIDIA LightBoost, ASUS ELMB, BenQ/Zowie DyAc, Turbo240, ToastyX Strobelight, etc.

benq zowie xl2540 vs. benq zowie xl2735 for a CS:GO player

Post by skjoedt » 13 Mar 2021, 12:03

EDIT: I am on a benq zowie xl2546, not XL2540 like in the subject...

Hello!

I am currently on the benq zowie xl2546 and I couldn't be more happy with my monitor except for one thing...
- The resolution...

The benq zowie xl2546 is "only" 1080p and with my new RTX3080 I am beginning to crave that 1440p experience, especially for the upcoming Diablo 2 Resurrected release!

My main game remains CS:GO and I am an absolute performance/latency/stutter snob, which is also the reason for my purchase of the benq zowie xl2546...

I only just recently found out about the benq zowie xl2735, however that monitor is "only" 144Hz albeit with DyAc as well...

My question is, does anyone have experience with DyAc on 240Hz vs. 144Hz?
- Is there a noticeable difference in motion clarity?
- Would it be "possible" to swap my xl2546 for the xl2735 and still be in a good spot?

I have read about the Samsung G7 and the Acer XB273UGX.
For the Acer XB273UGX I feel that the reviews and posts on this forum is very "mixed" about performance and issues with IPS Glow and BLB etc.
For the Samsung G7 I don't like curved panels to start with, so the very aggressive 1000R curvature is a "turn off" for me and I have a hard time finding good reviews with a focus on motion clarity, they all seem to focus on colors and pixel response times...

Is there a good/suitable option for me needs at the moment or should I wait for other/newer models to come out?
- If there was a 27" 1440p 240Hz version of the benq zowie xl2546 I would buy that monitor in a heartbeat, even for a 1000$ USD...

Best Regards
Frederik

Is the XL2540 a 240hz monitor?
I don't believe there are any 1440p 240hz monitors with blur reduction (though maybe with ULMB) besides the LG OLED's. Then again I haven't been paying attention too much.

You should be able to emulate 1440p through the monitor scalar by a custom resolution as the Benq scalars are pretty good at accepting whatever resolution you throw at it as long as it's in the parameters of an existing resolution.

This works on the old XL2720Z, but only at 100hz (I tried it at 120hz and got sparkling pixels, when I lowered Horizontal total enough to stay below the "Display port 1.1" max limit of 480hz, since XL2720Z doesn't support High Bit Rate 2 for >480hz).

Try the following in ToastyX Custom Resolution Utility:

2560 x 1440
Horizontal Total: 2080 (go down to 2001 if the resolution doesn't appear at all).
vertical Total: 1497-1510 (whichever one does not go out of range).
Refresh rate: 100hz and /or 120hz.

Yes, the XL2540 is a 240Hz monitor :)

However, I just discovered that I have written XL2540 all over the place, but in reality it is a XL2546 that I own, is there a way to correct the subject/topic/headline? :)

The 2 different 1440p 240Hz monitors I mentioned do have blur reduction :)

How would my 1080p monitor be able to show a 1440p resolution?
- And how would that give me the clear and smooth experience at 1440p, that I have now with 1080p?

You need to test it for yourself.

It should look the same as "Render Scale: 133%" in a game that supports display render scale, but I don't know if it's faster doing that through the game or doing that through the monitor.

Ok, I am not sure I entirely understand where you are getting at and how that would solve my "problem"...

I am not looking for a way to do 1440i on my current 1080p monitor.
I am looking for recommendations/advise/help on what purchasing decision I should make with regards to a native 1440p high refresh rate monitor. :)

I just realized both the XL2730Z (XL2730) and XL2735 are 1440p monitors. Forgot about that.

Personally I couldn't go back to 144hz. That said I would love to have a 1440p 240hz panel with dyac.
