Has Asus effectively fixed the double strobing issue when using ELMB with Adaptive Sync?

The ELMB-Sync implementation on my VG259QM was quite bad when VRR was enabled, the double pulse behaviour(described by A5hun in his review) created a lot of smearing due to the backlight pulsing twice at the beginning and at the end of the refresh window.

Fixed refresh rate ELMB on the other hand had a great implementation, Shadow Boost to 3 was good to compensate the lower brightness levels, I really liked using it both at 240 and 280hz.

very good chance they are all bad below 240hz. Can't speak for the others but asus's implementation doesn't disable LFC with elmbsync enabled so you will get random double framing, triple framing and quad framing. and elmb sync just devil horns the duplicate frames. the pulse width they use it laughable destroys motion clarity it's worse then sample and hold below 240hz. even the OD is locked way to high for lower refresh rates.

I think current vrr implementations are poisoning the well. I hope the chief can actually show them how it's done. seems to me like it's done for marketing purposes.

I don't even see much of a gain from having it on above 240hz tbh.

Yes, I think they all have the same double strobe issue, except M32Q and very possibly FI32Q.

Is there any way to further improve the strobing on Asus XG27AQM? I saw something about changing the total in CRU but not sure if that would help in this case.

New monitor from MSI
https://www.msi.com/Monitor/Optix-MAG281URF/Overview

If you read the manual on page 12
https://download.msi.com/archive/mnu_ex ... nglish.pdf

Looks like OD is locked and so is brightness, don't know what type of implementation but it's a 4k 144hz monitor so you can add it to the list

Good catch.

I also added M27Q X and FI32Q-X (1440p 240+Hz). Interestingly 32" model is marketed with Aim Stabilizer Sync supported, but user manual says aim stabilizer sync doesn't work with freesync enabled . M27Q X should be same panel as FI27Q-X (Sharp LQ270T1JG04), meaning no KSF phosphor.

MSI Optix MAG274QRX might have VRR + backlight strobing according to the manual: https://download.msi.com/archive/mnu_ex ... nglish.pdf

I don't see any reviews on this monitor but I am REALLY tempted to buy and test it considering it's cheaper than the ASUS XG27AQM at $560. I wonder if anyone on the forum has this monitor.... it has 0 reviews or coverage and rapid IPS tend to not have the red phosphor issue.

Legit thinking about buying it to compare vs the XG27AQM's elmb sync (elmb is close to perfect but only available in fixed refreshes)
