Chief,
Does this monitor look interpolated when you choose a custom 1080p resolution in CRU ?
I don’t understand your question.

If you’re referring to integer scaling, it works fine! Great feature for retro users and 8bit-pixel-art games. You do have to enable the option while a few things (e.g. HDR) is diabled. I am not sure if you need to disable FreeSync or not.

There’s a good Integer Scaling thread on the eve.community forum if you would like help turning on that pixelly mode, if you are having problems.

Integer scaling also works with retro-friendly strobing, so you can have your cake and eat it too, with great motion clarity integer scaling. Mind you, there’s a smidge of KSF ghosting (less than plasma, more than CRT), so if you hate that, there are other options such as XG2431 which has none of that but at lesser resolution & color gamut.

However, I am pleased, Falkentyne, that two monitors with “retro-friendly strobing” has finally hit the market. Yahoo!

Thank you, Chief! That answers my question. I do not own this monitor. Remember I have an XL2746S and XL2720Z as backup. I was looking into The Eve spectrum 4k 144 versus the XG2431 that you so carefully tuned.

You will probably find both ViewSonic XL2546 and Spectrum 4K144 superior for your strobing needs for multiple reasons, they both have:
- Superior Upgraded Strobe Utility (system tray, Overdrive Gain)
- Better colors
- Retro friendly strobing
- Large VT friendly (noticeable crosstalk reductions)

To differentiate the two:

ViewSonic XG2431
- 1080p at 240Hz
- Less motion artifacts due to no KSF phosphor
- ~59Hz to 240Hz single strobe at any-Hz
- “Blur Busters Approved”

Eve Spectrum 4K144
- 2160p at 144Hz
- Wide color gamut (132%), but has KSF phosphor (less ghosting than plasma, more than CRT)
- ~49.5Hz to 144Hz single strobe at any-Hz
- “Tuned by Blur Busters”

From that, decide on the differentiators. I know that you like retro friendly single-strobe.

Hi Chief

A quick query on the Blur Busters strobing utility - is it possible to use it for any monitor? I own the Viewsonic XG270QG, which has the KSF phosphor I believe, so I have always wrote it off in terms of strobing.

However, having seen your success with the Eve Spectrum, that gives some hope that good strobing is possible as the XG270QG is an exceptionally responsive monitor. Is the strobing utility very monitor-specific, and require a lot of work in conjunction with an individual monitor to get it functioning appropriately? Or is it fairly monitor-agnostic?

Thanks!

So if you're looking for another...

If you can settle for narrow range strobing (120-165), the MSI MAG274QRF-QD has surprisingly good strobing.

I have not worked on that unit, but it's pretty top-notch, especially if you use the refresh rate headroom trick (run 120Hz instead of 165Hz).
My beloved XL2411z died yesterday and now I am looking for a new monitor.
Still undecided between going for 24" vs 27" but leaning more towards 27" atm.

As I sadly cannot wait till october for the Eve Spectrum, do you have a recommendation for a 24" (1080 or 1440p doesnt really matter to me) and for a 27" are there better alternatives to the MSI you mentioned in the post above?

I bought my XL2411Z on your recommendation around 7 years and has been a perfect buy for me back then, very much appreciate the work you do!

Might as well just fix that/ask someone to... Chances are it's just a couple of cheap capacitors that went bad. I fixed my XL2411T not long ago after it worked for 10 years

Hadnt really thought about that, but I still intend to upgrade to a new monitor.
I would just donate the old one if it's just a capacitor.

If you're in Ontario/Quebec, Canada, I'll accept broken 144Hz or 240Hz monitors for free if it's going to the landfill anyway. Sometimes I need these for destructive experiments (e.g. testing maximum backlight voltage of common panels), or I'm able to repair them as spares, or for hacks (add strobed VRR via an Arudino like elexor did)

If you're in Europe, don't bother -- it'll cost $300 (A whole new monitor) just to ship a dead monitor to me.
