LG UltraGear 32GN600-B, G-Sync compatible and overclock

Talk about NVIDIA G-SYNC, a variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. G-SYNC eliminates stutters, tearing, and reduces input lag. List of G-SYNC Monitors.

LG UltraGear 32GN600-B, G-Sync compatible and overclock

Post by H3R3T1K » 05 Jun 2022, 12:22

Hi everyone! I'm getting this monitor and was wondering a couple things.
If I get it to run at 180Hz will G-Sync compatible still work? Would do it via nvidia control panel.
How do I find out this monitors VRR range? There's no info anywhere.

Sorry for double posting but I think I got it wrong. The tftcentral review recommends sticking with 120Hz and the fastest overdrive setting IF you can satay above 100fps with this particular panel:
As we discussed earlier it is arguable that the screen looks sharper and clearer at 120Hz thanks to the better response times and better refresh rate compliance, avoiding the added smearing you get at 165Hz because the response times can’t quite keep up with the frame rate. This is probably the optimal setting to use for gaming.
I would set 120Hz in Windows and enable fastest OD setting in OSD. VSync on and GSync compatibility mode off in driver. Set games to always stay above 100fps via quality settings and enable fps limit at 117fps.

In this situation what would GSync compatibility switches on do for me?

117FPS on 120Hz will have stutter. The purpose of g-sync is to fix that.

Could you explain to me why?

So GSync compatibility on and VSync on, refresh rate in Windows to 120Hz and the VRR range will be adjusted automatically (165Hz down to 120Hz)? That's how I learned it. Then cap fps at 117 so VSync never kicks in if it can be avoided.

Does refresh rate need to be changed in the driver as well or is the Windows setting the one that matters?

Does GSync work well in windowed borderless when enabled in driver?

Because the display needs to show 120 images and you're only giving it 117. What's it gonna do about the extra 3 images it needs? It's gonna show 3 of the images twice. That's 3 stutters in 1 second. Also called "microstutter" sometimes, although really it's called "jitter."

Yeah.

They are the exact same thing. If you change one of them, the other one also changes since they refer to the same setting.
Does GSync work well in windowed borderless when enabled in driver?
No. It's a hack that kind of works, but can have stutter.
