Windowed G-sync not working on dual monitor setup

Talk about NVIDIA G-SYNC, a variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. G-SYNC eliminates stutters, tearing, and reduces input lag. List of G-SYNC Monitors.

Windowed G-sync not working on dual monitor setup

Post by BlackAzrael » 09 Dec 2022, 13:37

Hello all,

Just recently got a new 4K 144hz monitor, the Gigabyte M32U, and finally got the G-Sync working after some initial grief.

I noticed however that when I run something in Windowed it just says "Normal" at the top right corner indicating that G-sync is not on.

Curious thing is that if I run this with only one of the monitors enabled, indicator says G-sync in windowed.

I currently have 2 monitors:
Gigabyte M32U 4K 144hz 32"
LG 27GL850-B 1440p 144hz 27"

Is this some kind of issue with different resolution monitor or multiple monitors in general with G-sync?

Also some games don't even show an indicator at all for some reason.

Computer specs (if that matters):
Motherboard: MSI pro z690a wifi
CPU: i7-12700k
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4-3200
GPU: Gigabyte 1080ti Aorus Xtreme

Multiple different-Hz different-sync-tech monitors don't work reliably.

Windows is a single-Hz compositor.

If you use VRR and different-Hz with multimonitor, make sure you run your content only on the primary monitor and make sure nothing is animating on the 2nd monitor (not even a webpage or video, only a static Notepad or PDF window if you're reading a walkthrough). Even a single pixel changed on the 2nd monitor can interfere with fluidity on the primary and add input lag.

Using full screen exclusive is a workaround, if you must do video or other ongoing screen activity on the 2nd monitor.

Hmm the monitors are the same Hz, just different resolution. It's not a big deal tbh but still unfortunate.

Check if Scaling Mode both to GPU does the trick.
CPU: AMD R7 5800x3D ~ PBO2Tuner -30 ~ no C states
RAM: Gskill Bdie 2x16gb TridentZ Neo ~ CL16-16-16-36 1T ~ fine tuned latency
GPU: ASUS TUF 3080 10G OC Edition(v1/non-LHR) ~ disabled Pstates ~ max oced
OS: Fine tuned Windows 10 Pro, manual tuned.
Monitor: Alienware AW2521H ~ mix of ULMB/Gsync @ 240hz/360hz

GPU scaling doesn't seem like it made a difference sadly. Still says Normal in Windowed.

I have literally the same problem.

G-Sync works fine UNTIL I connect my secondary USB monitor, it does not even connect to the GPU, but g-sync stops working, g-sync indicator disappears completely (Not even showing NORMAL)

This happens in most games, but not in stardew valley weirdly.. there it works even with secondary display connected.

Which makes me think this can be somehow solved but I have no idea how..
