G-sync+DLDSR/DSR is sadly not working.. any way to get it to work?

Talk about NVIDIA G-SYNC, a variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. G-SYNC eliminates stutters, tearing, and reduces input lag. List of G-SYNC Monitors.

G-sync+DLDSR/DSR is sadly not working.. any way to get it to work?

Post by Kyouki » 05 Apr 2023, 04:06

Hello fellow BlurBusters forum readers,

Basically most of the question is in the title, I experimented around but cannot seem to get it to work. I imagine it is because there is something missing in the resolution information, inf file or something out of range where G-sync does not want to seem to engage.

Was hoping if anyone figured out a method or a way to get it to work in co-junction with DSR/DLDSR resolutions. That would be splendid!
I was maybe thinking of messing with Special K to see what the issue could be, but was maybe hoping anyone reading the forum already found a method that could make it work.

when i was testing some thingys with Dp(displayport) versions,
i stumbled across this :

Additional Display Stream Compression Information:
While you may use a an older GPU (eg. GeForce GTX 10-series) with a display that supports Display Stream Compression over DisplayPort 1.4+/HDMI 2.1, you may not be able to select the highest resolution or refresh rate supported by the display.
When a display is connected to the GPU and is set to DSC mode, the GPU may use two internal heads to drive the display when the pixel rate needed to drive the display mode exceeds the GPU’s single head limit. This may affect your display topology when using multiple monitors. For example if two displays with support for DSC are connected to a single GeForce GPU, all 4 internal heads will be utilized and you will not be able to use a third monitor with the GPU at the same time.

If the GPU detects that a display supports DSC, DSC mode will be enabled automatically. Some displays may allow you to disable DSC by changing the communication link from the displays internal settings (eg. changing the DisplayPort mode from Displayport 1.4 to DisplayPort 1.2)
NVIDIA DSR, NVIDIA DLDSR and NVIDIA Image Scaling are not supported when DSC mode is enabled.
To determine if your PC monitor, notebook display or TV supports Display Stream Compression, please refer to your display manufacturer.

TLDR:
it will work on lower output versions of Dp or HDMI.
1.1 1.2...

1 thing you need to remeber, make sure you have some lower resolutions in your EDID,
bcs when you switch to lower output versions, some higher resolutions will be invisible..
if you did nothing in CRU,just native display resolutions enabled, you are safe.

That's actually a really good find!

Wonder how it would be possible to still achieve a working Gsync with DSR resolutions...

CRU extension block trickery? :?:

1.1 1.2...

so you need to change DP or HDMI on lower output, search for that option in yours monitors menu..
and select lower version from your native, example you are on DP its gonna be 1.4..switch to 1.1 than to 1.2
same with HDMI..
i would expect to work with lower than native hz..
bcs you gonna get restricted by version output..

so if you didnt do anything in CRU..
just lower the HZ in nvcpl..
switch the version ..
so it will become visible(native res with lower HZ bcs output strenght of selected version)..and just select the highest available afterwards..
engage DLDSR DSR..and that should work.

I don't think I got that option within my display's menu. I got a DP1.4 port with a DP1.4 cable that I also use.

So you can not change Dp version in service menu?
is it greyed out or ?
Can you hower over that 5.2 option?

Also what you found is the same what i am sugesting to you..

if you can not switch directly output signal via reducing the DP version..
lower HZ=it will work..

Yeah, do you perhaps know how I can view if DSC is being used or what resolution/refresh rate combinations uses DSC?

It worked!

I set my Desktop resolution to the DLDSR resolution prior to starting and this will engage G-sync properly! (even on my full-fat 360hz)

Kind of a nuisance Nvidia doesn't allow this to work for some reason while the game is running.

In the interest of recording my findings for future google searchers...

I wasn't able to get gsync + dsr working on DX12, but it works fine for DX11 (im testing on deep rock galactic)

I think it's related to the differences in fullscreen optimization between the two? I tried changing the setting in NVPI (bits 00 and 19 in OGL_DX_PRESENT_DEBUG) but it still wasn't working for me.
